Default Ss inserts........... A crying shame!!!!!

Over the years I have purchased in excess of ten sets of stainless steel letters from SS Inserts. I was shocked last week to find out that you can no longer can purchase a repalcement letter if you lose or bend one. You have to buy a complete new set. Barry said this is a "GM Thing." I think oterwise.

So if you are looking for stainless letters I suggest trying West Coast or another vendor.

Just say no.............. to SS Inserts!!!

Thanks I feel better now!!

Probably some kind of copy right deal.

When I had my Miata aftermarket guys couldn't use Miata in threshold covers or floor mats as examples. They had to resort to "Roadster".

Question is - is there a vendor that will just sell you a single letter out of a set? If so, that's great service.

Here is the deal.

GM holds the rights to the reproduction of the word Corvette.
GM also hold the rights to the Font used in the word Corvette.

Most manufactures (if not all) Secure the rights to reproduce the word
Corvette, not the individual letters (each in GM's Font)

Although super expensive, obtaining the rights to sell/produce the
word is reasonable enough if you sell hundreds of sets.

Getting the rights to reproduce each letter would be so expensive
that you would have to sell 10's of thousands just to break even.

I don't know of anyone who legally sells just the letters.

Having said that, CCA has always replaced missing letters (at our cost) for it's customers (at no charge), but we do not sell them individually because CCA and our manufacture do not have have the right to make/sell individual letters in the GM Font. CCA only buys our letters from GM Authorized Manufacturers...

Peace
Chip

Dang shame when people can copyright the english language.

Seems to me GM stole the word Corvette themselves

Just say "no" to ANY inserts. My had car some black ones installed by a previous owner. My first mod to the car was removing the inserts the day I bought it. Stickers and decals and other garbage are tacky add-ons that really cheapen the car's appearance. Everyone knows it is a Corvette, so there is no need for anyone to fill in the god-awful giant recessed logo on the bumper anyway. You don't see Lambo owners tacking all that garbage on to their cars. Try to stay clean and classy.

You know those "urban" types who go to Auto Zone and buy every stick-on piece of crap they can afford? Fake fender vents, chrome "GTR" decals, windshield squirter LEDs, etc.? Yeah, installing inserts reminds me of those guys.

I don't know what's tackier. The cheap way GM put Corvette on the back, or the stick on letters.

Since my C4 had them from the factory I would have to say it is the cheap way they put corvette on the back of the C5, and 91-96 C4s actually.

Ugh, right? They usually have limo tint on their windows, blacked out lights and black wheels too.

Exactly. I may be added a Specterwerks rear bumper next spring, and I may have my body shop fill in the letters for a clean and smooth look.

That's cute. You guys keep adding your stickers. They go great with those tacky taillight louvers and fake Z06 brake ducts.

I'll take "clean":

You can keep "tacky":
