Cold air intake vs stock
This is completely misguided and inaccurate!
Cold air access is only one of the advantages that the Honker system provides.
The C5 Honker relocates the MAF sensor and eliminates the over-radiator "air bridge". The shape of the air bridge, including high performance versions, causes diverging and converging air paths that ultimately restrict flow, when compared to the Honker shape in the same area.
Also, the shape of the Honker air box was computer-designed and fine-tuned on the flowbench for maximum airflow and minimum restriction.
Relocating the MAF sensor just in front of the throttle body, close-coupling the two components (as done by GM on C6), also demonstrated improved performance.
Manufacturing simplicity and cost control were not primary considerations in the Honker design process, as they may have been for the OEM parts.
