They have a filter cleaning kit that comes with the cleaning solution and oil.

I knocked the dirt loose on the concrete. A ton came out! These filters work really good.

From there spray it with the cleaning solution, let it soak for 15 mins, and rinse off. Let it air dry and then apply the oil.

You clean it like any other oil/gauze filters except with a proprietary GREEN FILTERS cleaning kit...

http://www.sbfilters.com/Store/Filter-Maintenance

Be careful knocking the media on concrete. You can bend the thin wire mesh and/or bend the pleats, and damage the media.

Also, do not over oil! You can damage the MAF sensor. LIGHTLY mist the filter and let dry...

Seems like one of the engine builders on here recommended letting it sit overnight after oiling. Not sure how that helps, but I do it.

You go ahead and use WD40 on your filter if you want. It's your car to do with as you please.

WD40 is not recommended by any of the oil/gauze filter manufacturers or any vendor who sells after market air intakes which use oil/gauze filters in their products.

The CALLAWAY "Honker" is recognized by most Corvette enthusiasts as an outstanding air intake system. CALLAWAY has been around for years building performance cars and products.

Scroll down to the bottom of this link to the installation instructions for the "Honker" (K&N filters currently used)...
http://www.callawaycars.com/componen...t-903-50-9850f
Use of WD40 and other none recommended home concoctions "can result in poor filtration" is the key phrase.

Read through the faq's section for K&N oil/gauze filters about using any other types of oil and the results...
http://www.knfilters.com/faq.htm

Contact GREEN FILTERS (or whoever makes your oil/gauze filters) and ask them if it's ok to use homemade concoctions on the filter media. Here's their cleaning/oiling instructions...

For what it's worth, on 10/10/11 I sent a message to GREEN FILTERS, K&N FILTERS and S&B FILTERS. I wanted these three major manufacturers recommendations of what oil product is recommended on their filter media. They all manufacture filter media for after market air intake manufacturers.

I asked each if they recommended using WD40 or any other oil (or combination) to replenish their filter media.

Spin their replies in any direction you want.

From K&N FILTERS on 10/11/11:

Hello JW,

Thank you for contacting K&N and inquiring about our products. I would not recommend using anything but our oil. We have specially designed it for our filters to help filter the best it can. Please let me know if you have any other questions?

Thanks for writing,

From GREEN FILTERS on 10/11/11:

We recommend our specially formulated cleaner kit.
Vararam sells it or it is also available on our website.
We also have a promotional sale going on right now for the cleaner kit.

From S&B FILTERS on 10/11/11:

Update for Case #1487 - "oiling agent"

Good Afternoon Sir,

Thank you for your email. We do recommend that only our cleaner and oil are sued on our filters as all testing is done using our products. Below I've added a link that will take you directly to our Cleaning and Re-oiling kit.

Thank you again,
Kristen

I did not contact AIRAID or CALLAWAY (synthetic media "Blackwing"), but they market S&B recharging kits for their products.

Don't learn the hard way! If you run a K&N Filter, clean it and oil it correctly or stick with paper. Good advice above!
