So about a year ago we were shopping for a new car for the wife. She wanted a Nissan Murano so we were in the local dealer to buy one. While we were waiting for paperwork to be done the wife spotted a nice 350Z roadster and said we should test drive it. We took it out and it was pretty nice, had the top down on a beautiful 75 degree SoCal day. I kept telling her I was a Vette guy but she said I should try something different.
Anyway, one year and only 1200 miles latter the 350Z is sold and it's time for another Vette!
I know this has been debated to death here but I still have the question of C5 vs C6. I had a 98 C5, M6 coupe slightly modded and loved it. I have driven C6's but haven't owned one.
If I get a C6 I'd be inclined to leave it stock, maybe just do exhaust.
If I go C5 I'd get a cheaper one and go long tubes, cam, heads, etc. I think I'd still be less money than a C6?
Think twice about putting long tubes on a C5 if you live in California.... unless you're real fond of changing them out every other year for your smog check.
I say get the c6 for 3 reasons. One: your in SoCal with tons of emissions laws. The C6 will pass and give you the HP you want Two: C6 is a more comfortable and quiet DD, unless you plan on modding seats and interior. Three: The wife will like its creature comforts, "new" car feel, and slightly better ride quality over a modded C5.
The modded C5 will feel more like a race car, which is great for a weekend warrior/husbands car. If it was just your car that she rarely drove, then I would say go C5.
G/L with your new vette! It is a win win situation either way!
