U.S. Customs Seizing HID Conversion Kits

Seems like an appropriate place to post a warning about products possibly offered for sale here. If I read this correctly retrofit HID kits are not DOT approved which might lead to among other things problems in an accident investigation?

Per the SEMA site"... the DOT symbol indicating certification of compliance..."
So next, they'll add the DOT symbol (if it meets compliance or not) and continue to ship the product. Then NHTSA will worry about the chasing the certifications!
Since the HIDs work in Europe, why not here? This is a Billion $$$ industry that will not go away - the government may as well embrace it and give the public what they want....
