I have a 98 bone stock vert with 22,000 miles. After a nice fall cruise we stopped at the store for some items and after sitting in the fire lane waiting for sweetness to return I had to move the Vette several times to keep the cops and the fire marshal happy. I believe that I started and stopped four times in a fifteen minute period and on the last move the CEL came on. When I got home I pulled the code and it was the 0171 code for lean fuel trim bank 1. I cleared it and it has not come back.
Just wondering if this is a sign of something that is likely to cause a problem in the future or perhaps just a system reaction to lean fuel after starting and stopping several times with a hot engine? My airplane has fuel injection and on really hot days can be problematic to get re-started due to vapor lock. Any ideas as to what might have caused this or should I just forget it and wait until something breaks? Any direction or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Many times when you get a P0171, you also get a P0174.....its the other bank. When you get only one (P0171), check your 02 sensor.
Check your PCV valve. Check your air induction after your MAF sensor.
Check your vacuum hoses.
Thanks for the advice runner. The O2 sensor makes sense to me as the system was hot and I was starting and stopping the engine in short intervals. I recently had the sensors checked and they were switching in the proper rapid frequency so I will drive it and see what happens. After 25 miles the CEL has not popped up again so maybe it was a fluke. I have had a mouse (seriously) make a nest on top of the engine on the top of the intake manifold in my enclosed basement and it may have chewed a vacuum line. No more mouse but I will check for damage. Thanks again for your insight.
