Thanks for the input, I don't especially trust carfax either i just thought those mileage entries were strange. I've heard from some of the big dealers around town that most of the time they dont bother with making carfax entries because they're too busy. I've driven the silver car the only thing i noticed was a squeak somewhere in the rear end on occasion when i hit a bump, other than that it drove and looked fine as far as i could tell.

I would advise caution when a CARFAX mileage jumps around and actually reflects a much lower clock than an earlier reported entry. Good luck with your hunt.

I would lean towards mileage descrepancies being clerical mistakes. I think it would be pretty darn difficult if not impossible to change the reading on one of these. What it says on the odometer is more than likely correct.

2001s had many improvements, but one big potential problem.

They went to a different assembly procedure for the piston rings. Before they used selective assembly (measured piston diameter and selected rings with a certain diameter), then they went to a range of tolerances. They may have changed material also.

Bottom line, some 2001 C5s had an oil consumption problem. GM replaced under warranty if worse than 1 quart in 800-1000 miles.

Not that difficult at all.
There was a forum member a few years ago that offered a conversion kit for non HUD cars to HUD clusters and projectors.
He was able to set the odometer to whatever your non HUD cluster said before the swap.
Not sure how he did it, but if he could, then it's doable.

Correct me if i'm wrong, i probably am, but didnt they change something in 00 or 01 that gave every cluster the option for the hud, some kind of dongle or plug if i remember, so you wouldnt have to change them out to be able to add the hud anymore?

I dont mind if theres an obvious clerical error, my buddy had a jeep that went from 22 to 15 to 29 on his carfax(i think they were recording oil changes). Its pretty easy to see someone just had a typo, but this one counts up drops then counts up to the current odometer reading.

I realize this is a bit off topic, but since oil consumption was mentioned, what is the purpose of the catch cans i see on the forums, are they really necessary and how often do you have to empty them?

To me the silver, or pewter car is a lot cleaner car. I personally don't like the radio mod on the blue car, with the cut out for the sub. I'm parcial to the pewter or silver verts, but it just looks like a much cleaner car. Don't think the price is too far out of line from what I've seen here in the midwest. I've been watching the prices here, because my wife said I paid too much for mine. I still think I did pretty good.
