I want to put a roll bar in my z06.Hoping to run "One Lap " eventually. Is a 4 point adequate (reasonable) ?Who makes them and where can I buy? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I'm currently installing a roll bar in my '02 ZO6 - it's Autopower's race 4 point. Autopower's bar has brackets that weld-in and the bar bolts-in. After the initial installation: the bar can be removed and installed in a few minutes. The best price I found was at i/o port racing (IOPortRacing.com) for $315.00. I've stripped the rear interior and test fit the bar - it fits great. I'm currently looking to find a good welder to weld the brackets. The only downside I have found is that the fuel tanks are right under where the front brackets are welded. The directions instruct you to lower the gas tanks by removing the skid plates. And in talking to a welder he also suggested running water over the top of the tanks while welding (due to the fact that the gas tanks are plastic).
I too am thinking of a roll bar and your set-up sounds quite nice. I'll have to check it out at IOPortRacing.com. Do you have pics, especially of the installation process?
Hey Mike!
Good to hear from you. How did you do at mid Ohio? I have had the opportunity to run Road Atlanta twice since April. Loads of fun when you work the skills we learned at Bragg-Smith. I'll check into Wolfe and see what they have to offer. Saw Collin and Raina at the CI 3 a couple of weeks ago. They said you almost went- should have, then we would have had half of our class!

See http://www.tradezone.com/vette/rollbar.html for a similar roll bar installation process. The Autopower bar has rear bars that are longer and closer together. They bolt to a plate that hangs out into the large storage hole. The front attachment is slightly different, also - it has a plate that welds to the top of the rear firewall and then the bar bolts to the plate. I've tried to attach my photos, but I can't seem to get them to work. If you tell me how to attach the pictures I will or you can give me your e-mail address and I'll send you some. The bar looks and fits great.

All this is true. When installing my custom made 6 point cage (for SCCA T1). I learned all that the hard way  .
LGM did a great job on mine. It's a NHRA legal bar with a SCAA style diag, good for dragging, auto-x, and open road racing. The fronts are removable and mount directly to the hoop - zero residule presence in the interior, I forget it's there.
David,
I missed CIII for Mid-Ohio. Would have loved to catch up with all of you. I did OK at Mid-Ohio it was great fun. My instructors BMW was about half the horsepower of the vette so he didn't know whether to trust me the first day. I have to run in Atlanta some time. While I was at Bragg-Smith and Mid-Ohio I was fighting with two slipped disks in my neck so I don't know when I'll be back on a track.
binksZ06,
It was the northern Ohio BMW club they run every Memorial weekend there, Great people. The Porsche club runs there several times a year also. I've been told they are a little more "Banzii" like.
Rollbars are funny things. Not all rollbars are legal everywhere. My WolfeRaceCraft bar was about $800 and I can unbolt it if I want to sell the car. I understand it is legal most everywhere, I really like it - works for my needs. That is not to say however that a $1000 - $3000 weld-in bar isn't better for someone else. I love the cage in Godspeed's ride.
To anyone considering a rollbar:Make sure you buy enough rollbar the first time that you don't have to scrap it and build a better one later.
Mike
