I also have a good relationship with the Mayor and Police Cheif as well as most of the cops. I suspect this was a case of misplaced effort to show the folks she's on patrol and in control.
This was a big issue back in the 60's in my small hometown. At the very least you had to have duals and glass-pacs. Throw in high compression big blocks, 25 cent gas and cheap bias ply tires and you had a recipe for some serious noise, talk about getting some attention! Most trouble I ever got into was going before the judge and having my speeding ticket ammended to disorderly conduct. When the police and court reports were printed in the weekly newspaper my father (a pastor) didn't appreciate seeing I had paid a $10.00 fine for D.O.
Don't take it too seriously. You didn't get a ticket, no harm done. Maybe she was bored and just pulled you over to say hello.
Without a doubt, its no fun to get pulled over and I think its fair to say all here agree. But you didn't get the ticket. That in itself is worth celebrating...

I quit going to Daytona BikeWeek a few years ago and they were writing tickets for excessive noise too. Both Daytona and Myrtle Beach are ready for the bikes to go somewhere else.
Last year I got pulled over for almost the same thing. The motorcycle cop that pulled me over said it was because it sounded like I was speeding...yep you heard me right. I did get a written warning. But at least I know the Corsa gets attention when you accelerate.

As the female Huntington cop walks up I say what did I do wrong since I didn't speed or bark the rear tires? She say......now get THIS... "We have a noise ordinance".... NO KIDDING! I said.... "A what?" Yep!
She pulled me over in my Vette cause I made too much noise! Here's the funny part....I wasn't in a logging truck, not a Monster truck, not a redneck special "Ain't Skreered" branded hooppity, but in my Vette! I went to the City officies afterwards and asked what is the noise ordinance? They didn't know off-hand but would ask the Police Chief later and for me to call back.
I didn't get a ticket, not even a warning ticket....so why pull me over? She asked me where I was going though. She didn't even have a decibel meter to even know how loud I was, so I guess we are to leave it up to her to decide how loud....loud is? I know theres no way you can get one of those tickets unless you can actually state by a decibel meter how loud it really was. Come on!
I'm guessing she saw me in the Vette and decided she was gonna put me in my place..... She doesn't know I don't lay down and roll over. I'm always ready to get what I deserve when I do speed or whatever, BUT NOT FOR BS! I'm going to have a talk with the Police Chief and tell him what I think. She can do her job but needs a refresher course on ethics, but since she new to the job not to be hard on her.
I can understand your frustration but if I were you, just let it go! There are more important things to stand up for then this. Cops routinely use any excuse to pull you over no matter how vague so they can run your name, make sure your paper work is in order, or just a routine check...check being all and anything in between. Bringing it up to her superior's will do nothing. As BS as it was she was just doing her job. If you were a crook a stop like this can potentially yield an arrest for a warrant or other. Just let it slide an don't worry about it
It always makes me laugh that if you have a loud car (not saying yours is), you can be subjected to this type of harassment. If you ride a Harley with straight pipes its just cool. I'm confused.

Rick, If it were me I would let it go, She gave you a beak the way I see it. Why push the issue? You will gain nothing.

The same thing happen to me a few months back. The cop told me if he can hear the car running from 50 foot away it was ticket time.Same thing on a car stereo.
