Im sure this is a dumb question but where is the drain on the radiator. All I saw was a white plastic thing on the passenger side that is like those screws that only allow you to put it in so it had ramps if I were to try and use a screwdriver to remove it. I looked in the service manual and didnt see anything either.
If it is the only car you will have available during the flush, go to the auto parts store and pick up a spare before attempting to remove it...they are like $3 or $4 bucks...just in case you tear it up removing it. I ended up jacking mine up while removing it...seems even the 1/4 turn was too much.
Ok I guess Ill have to find my 1/4 in extension so I can reach in there.
Also how does the drain plug work? It doesnt just stay in there while it drains? I guess Ill take a look on autozones website to see what it looks like.
Tur it 1/4-1/2 a turn, wiggle it back and the coolant will come out. BE GENTLE OR YOU WILL BREAK IT!
Hmm sounds like fun...
I guess Ill try it out next week as I dont have anymore time to mess with it before I go out of town this weekend, at least I got the water pump replaced.

Don't be silly...any technical question is a good question...a person is "dumb" if a question isn't asked
It is not supposed to come all the way out, it stays in the drain hole while it is draining. If you get it out, you've broken it.
Mine wouldnt start draining after I turned it 1/4 turn, nothing happened, not sure if it was plugged or what. Then I pulled on it and it popped out then the fluid REALLY came out fast, it blasted me in the face ....thankfully the car was cold. The plug didnt break on me, I reinstalled it and its been fine. I see how you could easily break it though, its just a small plastic piece.
An allen socket fit mine but I don't remember the exact size. I have a set of them & just picked the one that fit. I'll check when I get out to the shop.
I just have to fill the coolant, PS fluid and put the battery in and I'm ready to fire.
Use a 1/4 drive extension on a 1/4 ratchet. Turn counterclock wise (1/2 turn and pull back gently) and have your bucket underneath. When you unscrew and remove the coolant recovery tank cap, the fluid will gush out. Have fun with your project.
As other's have warned it only turns about a 1/4 turn. Then it will just pop out a little. I prefer to jack the passenger side up behind front tire just a little to make it easier to slide the drain container (larger size) underneath and so it's easier for me to access the drain ****.
And it's very good advice to have a new one on hand just in case.
Well...I decided to whimp out and have the same mechanic that just tore out my entire underneath, do the fluid change correctly for me tomorrow...just bought 2 gallons of the GM Dexa(cool?) for $15 a gallon...he is going to completely empty the cooling system...flush it with de-ionized water(another name for purified water?) and refill the system...he said my old original stuff looked as good as it day one...wth?...anyway, I want it done correctly and without breaking this>>>[IMG]http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21YlqiCeEIL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Update...
My mechanic finished the antifreeze flush and refresh and he said it looked like the original antifreeze was new...he did an excellent neat job as I watched him get the bubbles out of the system and I asked a millions questions about everything...then when I went back to the service advisor and asked how much the job cost he said he didn't even write a ticket or charge me and that it was a Christmas gift for me from he and the mechanic(they also gave me back the 2 gallon jugs of Dex-cool I had purchased for $15/gallon each from their parts dept.) ..he said my mechanic had tons of it in his storage under his work bench...WTF?...Now I have renewed faith in this particular Chevy dealership...I know...
will post some pics when I get a chance to download them
