When comparing to a 295/40/18 tire, it seems the 40 height would fill the wheel well more aesthetically, yet 35 seems to be the height of choice for many. What am I missing?
You are missing nothing. I have 295 35's on my stock wheels for winter and they look dumb, too short especially when compared to my summer wheels with 285 40's. I couldn't find 295 40's at the time, guess they just started making them recently. I am still looking for something wider 305 or 315 in the same overall height as the 285 40 but all I can find is drag radials.
285 40 left 295 35 right

Just what I thought ....... unfortunately, my 35 rears only have 5K on them, and I only drive the vette about 1500 miles a year. I'm 80, so I may never see my vette with 40 rears.

Thanks for the photos and info.
Yea I'll wait to wear them out also. Hopefully the size I want will be available by then.
