Default Clutch Question

Maybe it's me but it feels like lately like my clutch is engaging near the last portion of pedal travel. It just feels like there is very little pedal left after the clutch is fully engaged.

There is no slipping, as I have tested this by near full throttle starts and the wheels spin, and high throttle at low rpm, so I know it is fully engaging, it just feels like it should engage just a little sooner. Especially on hot days, if you just give it a little extra throttle and don't hit that sweet spot just perfectly you can smell the clutch a little.

My car has about 15,000 miles with no track or road racing. Just some street hopping, but nothing excessive.

What is the full engagment point of your Z's? It feels like it should be at about the 60 - 70% mark. not the 90% mark of pedal release.

Is there an adjustment to make it engage a little sooner?

Did GM put in a clutch that will just barely handle the 385 lbs. of TQ?

Default Re: Clutch Question (TRZ06)

Our 01 Z06 clutch engages in the middle of the travel but feels like there is quite a range of movement between where it starts to engage and when it is fully out. Also, the clutch feels soft and spongy most of the time which I don't much like. There can be a slight stuttering if I don't give it just the right combination amount of gas. it's been like this since new, and have been told that 'they all do that'

That's where thay engage, but there is some varience. The best way I have found to learn the full range of your clutch engagement is to let the clutch out VERY slowly at idle without stalling the car. It engages over a larger distance than you think. I agree it's not the best setup. In the 60's I adjusted mine to engage right off the floor for faster power shifts. Ric
