when ever i would press the button to release my trunk it would hardely open..so i got tried of it..sprayed some silicon spray around the lock area..and now it springs open enough to get bout a finger and a half...so a quick diy for people who do not want the springs helpers
With your driver door open and all windows up, pop the truck hatch function, close the driver door kinda fast and the compressed air within the cabin will pop the truck up high enough to open
If you have a partition this won't work, they make little springs you can install to do the same.

Been there; done that.
On the 8th day, God made silicone spray. Can I get an "AMEN!!!"

I'm going to do this and install spring helpers... My trunk is gonna fly off
My 04 has the same issue. I have only owned the car for a couple of weeks but I learned the car door trick soon after I got it. I was wondering, when new, did the trunk open all the way, or just enough to lift up with your hand? The reason I ask is that I thought that the hydraulic struts needed to be replaced.

Don't waste your money. I thought the same thing and bought two brand new struts. Didn't change a thing. I still have to wiggle my finger under the edge to lift it or do the close the door trick (I don't really use my keys to open it).
I've been thinking about buying one of the helper springs, I've just never gotten around to it. My trunk has a custom built sub enclosure and amps so I have no storage back there. The only reason I ever open the trunk is to show it to someone or to clean the soap from around the drip rails after a bath.
Mine opens a little bit sometimes and others it opens fine but it was happening more and more. I sprayed the silicone spray on the strut rods and all pivoting points as well as the latch itself and the trunk lid jumps open with gusto now! The spray solved my issues, hopefully it will keep working properly!
In 2003 GM went from two to one trunk hinge on the Z. After many complaints, they issued a TSB to add the right side hinge. I had that done on mine--still doesn't "really" solve the issue.
So I sprayed mine the other day with silicone spray, the latch, hinges ect and it was working great. This morning, same problem of it barely opening but this afternoon it was good again. What i noticed was that the air temps seem to make the difference. This morning was in the 20's outside, about 32 degrees in my metal garage but by afternoon when it was warmer it worked fine. Could just be the cooler temps when it does not pop open far enough?

Under warranty on a 2003 Z06, I had the trunk struts and latch replaced...worked fine----for about 6 months. Prior to that, I kept spraying the hinges and latch with Mobil 1 spray lube (I still have 2 cans of the stuff left; they don't make them anymore)--- after about 2 or 3 days, the synthetic Mobil 1 spary lube stopped working. Then I purchased a spring......it worked fine but I didn't like the way it looked (pig tail look when the trunk is opened) and took it off after a week. It's for sale + shipping.
