Belts squeal for basically two reasons: They are dirty or there's not enough tension on them. Bearings are something else.

I didn't read that you had changed the belt when you changed the idler pulley. That said, the current belt is either not under enough tension or it's got a build up of rubber in the pulley on the a/c. Basically, it sounds like it's just slipping during sudden load changes on it.

Get some "belt dressing" in a spray can from the auto parts store. Spray it between the pulley and the belt. If the squeal goes away the belt and pulley were probably polluted with rubber dust or something like that causing it to slip. If that doesn't work I'd go for a new belt before spending $60+ on a tensioner.

But, as usual, ymmv good luck.

Take a bottled water and while the car is running pour water over the serpentine belt. If the noise goes away while the water is running over the belt then all you should need to replace is the belt. The edges get worn and can cause this type of squeak.

If the noise persist than I would follow Matt's advice.

I would still try this if you haven't already. The one thing I would add to this, if you find that it is the belt making the noise, is to thoroughly clean the pulleys before the new belt is installed as red-in-la suggested.

Yeah!

That's why when one starts to go then the best thing to do is replace them all.

Now keep the old tensioner as a back-up!

Thanks,Matt
