Car has been hit for sure.
The tub not only looks cracked, but buckled up as well.
I would have the car looked at by a body shop to make sure you have no frame damage.
Did you ever pull a Carfax on the car before you bought it ?
I've known the car was in some sort of rear collision. Passenger side well has a bit of cracking. I think the frame (if damaged) was fixed. Car drives straight, and there were no issues when getting a wheel alignment. No irregularities in driving behavior that I can tell. Only thing is the occasional creak I hear from the rear when going up inclines.. I always dismissed it as suspension creak, but I'm thinking it could be the fiberglass. Visually, the body panels all look fine too. Except the trunk lid, and I know why now.
I'll probably get it fixed eventually. If I'm not mistaken, it's very labor intensive ($$$) to replace a rear tub.

looks like it was hit pretty hard from that picture. certainly enough to buckle the tub (which requires a pretty good shot from the rear). have you ever had the car on a lift to really inspect it closely?? is the wheelbase the same on both sides?? just another opinion, but it certainly looks like someone cheaped out on the original repair and made a cosmetic repair at the sake of a structural one.
Next time I have the car jacked up, I'll take some measurements to see if anything is obviously amiss. I don't remember seeing anything strange when I was swaping out axleback. I think it was hit in the right rear corner, just based on the damage to the rear tub. Plus the Borla Stingers I took off had a nice dent on the passenger side muffler, as well as a hole right where it goes over the axle... as if the CV joint had hit it or something.
