I planned to to a iPhone application with the DIC Codes for the C5 today, if i search the web they are all over but is there still a copyright from GM on the codes you think?
I personally would enjoy having all the codes with me in the phone, and its easy to do but i dont now if its legal.
The information is in the public domain. As long as you use it for your personal use and dont sell it in an application you can do with it as you please IMHO.
I'm not an attorney in any way but that sounds right...if the information is in the public domain, then there shouldn't be any copyright issues. The owner of the information has the right to go after anyone using it for profit should they wish, whomever that might be. The codes are not only for Corvettes but most all cars these days.
As mentioned the codes are NOT Corvette/GM specific. They're OBD-II (1996+) specific. DTC P0420 is Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) is the same for a C5 and a Dodge truck.
