iMHO.......2 years newer is worth $2k. But if you look close enough they are probably not identical in every way. Do you prefer one color over the other, if they are different? Do both have the same options? Have you driven both, to see how they drive? Lots of things can be different. If I had narrowed my search to those 2, I would check them out real close and pick the one I preferred. If it is the 04.......it's worth the extra money. If it's the 02 your preference just saved you $2k.

I have an 02 and love it. 2k isn't that much money, check the tires on the cars, they are not cheap.. if the 02 needs tires, then you will be using a chunk of you 2k on tires.
In my opinion and in this economy, it depends on how much $2000 means to you. To some on this forum, 2K is nothing, to others, they have to scrape and save to get 2 grand for mods or anything else. So take a look at your finances. If 2K is no a big deal, get the 04, if 2K makes a significant difference, get the 02, there is not that much difference (if any) in the cars and you can spend the additional 2K making the car unique to you. It's a fun decision to have to make and probably a win/win either way! Zuti
Always easier to spend someone elses money.
Over a long term I wonder how much difference will be seen. Right now these are still new enough to be graded as used cars. If you intend to keep it for a long time I think that will change a bit. Look at C4s. I shopped those all summer but endeed up with my 99 project instead. What I learned is the last 3 years of the C4 were considered the best by most knowledgeable Vette people. The asking and selling prices of 94-96s were all but identical given the same condition. With those, miles, condition, Coupe vrs Vert mean more than wether it's a 94 or 96. I don't have a crystal ball but I would think the same will happen with the later C5s.
