Hey plusit
apparently you have not been in and out of
trucks all your life or you would have long ago got tired
of a clutch and a floor shift.
Well I spent my formative years on a farm, trucks and cars had stick shift.Mid teens,,back in town,,Still preferred stick. Did spend a couple of stints as over the road semi driving,,still prefer sticks. Last 12 working years spent on the gridlock commute over the Poplar Street Bridge to St.Louis,,in a stick car or my motorcycle,,prefer sicks! Now I just turned 65 and STILL prefer stick shift!! Just depends on what you like. I love the feeling of control and direct involvement when driving with a stick. Even in my 60s I have had reaction times as low as .001 on test and tune night,,a chance to see what she will REALLY do,,legal and no B.S. involved,,it's printed on paper for all to see!! For fun driving,,can't beat a stick IMO!!! For the record,,I put about 10k a year,,and 85% or better is local driving!!
What do you doubt chasboy? I was building B/W T-10s and M-22 rock crushers for my b/g ****** back in the 1960s! We then went to B&M hydrosticks and Art Carr glides for consistancy.
Did I lose you yet?
THAT YOU WERE DRIVING STICKS BEFORE I WAS BORN. Keep your shirt on and relax, ok?

I never said I was driving a stick before you were born! I wasn't reffering to you! You are the same age as I am. [old fart]
I just don't understand why some here think your not a "real" vette person if you don't drive a stick. I prefer the automatic but everyone has to make their own choice. See, I kept my shirt on and relaxed just for you!

autos are for girls
Just funning with you. It's all just personal preference.

Nice shirt! and actually I agree with you now that you eloquently clarified your point!
I learned on the family Country Squire, then had to learn how to drive my first car, a 1959 Fiat with 4 on the tree, in a few hours to take my grandfather home. We've had a variety of sticks and autos over the years, but I never had a V8 and stickshift in the same vehicle, so for me, the Z06 is a dream come true.
btw, I like that white one in your avatar. Is that your current one???

No, the white one is my old '97"! I now have a torch red "99' coupe. I keep the avatar because of my old model "A" coupe in the picture.
I honestly miss the artic white car as it was very fast [gears, tune c.a.i. etc]. I took my drivers test in my 49 mercury coupe. speed on the floor [sparkmatic shifter from western auto] scared to death with the state trooper riding shotgun! I also dig zo6s but a messed up back prevents me from driving a stick now! heres to you
The only reason I made a manual a mandatory requirement when I got my C5 was because I dont like only having 4 gears, if there was an option for the A6 with paddle shifters I would have gone with that, its just more well rounded if you ever drive it in traffic, and living in socal you can bet I have to drive in traffic occasionally and the mn6 is a pain and I'm only 26

I do like the white ones. My favorite uncle had a 48 Merc crate engine in his custom 36 Ford rod.
I have a '01 C5 M6 which doubles as my good weather commuter and my autocross race car. A couple times a month I get caught in bad traffic going home and the M6 can be a PITA. I am fortunate to also have a '07 C6 A6 with the paddleshifters. We take the A6 when we drive into S.F. for city driving. Took the A6 on a 4000 mile trip (Northern CA to Mt Rushmore) and hardly ever touched the paddles. Just drove it like a regular automatic (I must be getting old). The A6 did not take any enjoyment away from driving a vette on a long trip. The A6 is mostly the wife's car. While she can drive a stick she just doesn't enjoy doing so. She does love driving her A6 and loves waving at other vettes.:

This is a great point. If you're talking about an A6 vs an M6, than the differences become more negligible. However, in the C5, the M6 definitely gives you more feel and makes you feel more connected to the car than the A4 will. However, with that being said, and A4 can be built to be pretty mean too with gears and a stall. I bought 6 speed, as I had to have a manual. Do I love shifting gears? Sure. But the novelty has somewhat worn out a bit already. Would I mind an A4. I could probably live with it.
OP: I would steer you in the direction of the A4. It sounds like that's what you truly want. Don't settle on the M6 and have your left leg cursing you for years to come!
Just got back from cruising around. Thought about this thread and all the things mentioned in it. I'm sure some people don't "feel" it even when driving a stick, but I do and some of the others have mentioned it. We are blessed my shifting brothers, for the others no not what they are missing.
I'll admit my bias and understand why it's not for others, now where is that chair......oh, here it is
