Default C5 clutch upgrade

It looks like it's time for a new clutch on the vert. Someone suggested purchasing a Z06 clutch upgrade kit rather than replacing with stock. Has anyone on the C5G done this? A good idea?

There are lots of aftermarket clutches out there, but I did just what you're suggesting. The Z06 clutch was something like $20 more than the stock clutch and the install was exactly the same as stock. However, there may be some better aftermarket options for the same price or less. I'm sure others will chime in. Zuti

Unless you're going with big power, the LS7 clutch is the way to go. Just be sure to replace the hydraulics, throwout bearing, install a speed bleeder and use new bolts on the pressure plate and flywheel. Make sure you get the torque specs and pattern correct for those bolts as well. A factory shop manual will pay for itself after this job.

I had the LS7 installed a month ago when my 480rwhp became too much for the stock clutch. So far so good, close to stock feel.

Thanks everyone! The grinding noises suggest it needs a new throwout bearing, so I'll replace the clutch as well while it's ripped apart.

Not that I need it since I have an A4, but good to know that the LS7 clutch will work on the C5.
