Default Thinking about selling

I am really considering selling my 2002 Z06. It is a very nice car that has been everything i wanted it to be lol. I have done some nice mods to it and have been working towards a FI setup. BUT i am at a cross roads with the car. On one hand i will have the car payed off in about 6 months, i already have a great start on my FI mods and coilovers for better handling. On the other hand to finish my build i am going to have to invest a lot of money into a ten year old toy lol. At this point i need a supercharger kit (6k+), a good daily driver clutch for FI setup (1k+), alky kit, driveline mods, fuel system etc. So i am not sure if i should sink more money into this car or start a new project. I have a 98 jeep TJ that i love and just test drove a 2012 4dr rubicon. I am leaning towards selling the c5z and trading my TJ in on the new jeep. Not sure what the 02 zo6 are selling for these days either.

AS THE CAR SITS NOW:
1. quick silver 2002 z06 with just over 35k miles
2. vararam cai with vararam powerduct
3. LG G5xB supercharger camshaft
4. comp 921 springs
5. mellings oil pump
6. c5r timing chain
7. EE catch can
8.ARH 1 7/8" long tube headers with 3"x3" off-road x-pipe
9. stock TI catback
10. LGM ADJ coilovers

Yeah, I agree. It's not about the age man, it's about the fact it's still a damn nice, and about to be paid off car. I can tell you now, you're not gonna like the prices C5Z's are pulling right now...especially modded cars. You'd be looking at 21k tops unless you really market it (spending cash and time to do so) that you may not recover.

It sounds to me that the car is a supercharger and clutch away from being able to kill about any new exotic out there...plus you'll own it.

Tough call though...I just DEFINITELY can't see trading it to play around with a Jeep...lol. Maybe an M3, C6Z, or 911....but not a jeep...haha.

Funny, but I was thinking the same thing. I just sold my 06 Dodge diesel, and I was thinking about selling or trading my QS 02 C5Z for a 2012 Jeep Wrangler rubicon. But I will most likely wait til summer, sports cars go up in value and jeeps should start getting rebates.

The jeep is a whole diff kind of toy lol. I have done some suspension work, tires, wheels, etc to my 98 jeep and if def is one of my fav vehicles i have ever owned. Its kinda like our c5z in that is was built for a certain purpose and does it very well. Now the 2012 Jeep esp the 4dr Rubicons have a good engine, interiors are really nice and come from the factory with tons of great parts. Now the cost of a supercharger and clutch would cover all the mods i would want to do to the new jeep (AEV suspension, AEV wheels, AEV bumpers for any jeep guys out there). The big selling point for the jeep to me is it would be a toy that i could enjoy all year. I can take it on any trip and not worry about roads, speed bumps and going to off-road parks. Hard to beat taking the top off and being outdoors.

Now for my Z06. Yes it is in great shape and is getting close to being a 600+rwhp car. It would be my first 10 sec car . It gets tons of looks, sounds great and soon it will be payed for. The down side of keeping it is i know that i will want to keep modding it. Yes the supercharger/clutch would make it a very fast car but it will also lead to many more required parts. Coming from a supercharged Ford Lightning I know how you can get hooked on boost lol. All which leads to a new built engine at some point. So i am just not
sure. I figured 20-21k would be all i could get out of my car.

Why would you want to trade both when you have the best of both worlds? You already have a jeep so that takes care of your off road fun and you'll have the Z paid off in 6 months. If you don't want to get into boosting the Z because you think it will lead to further mods then why don't you just do a mild N/A set up and call it a day?

Plus you wouldn't have a car payment anymore(assuming the jeep is paid off) which is the best feeling in the world. Keep both and forget about the 2012 jeep.

Not having a monthly payment on it would be nice. Thought about getting back into a truck myself but when the weather is nice the Z brings me back.

You really need to do some soul searching on this one. I have thought about getting rid of my vette and getting a CTS-V...not the LS9 equipped, but somewhere in the range of the 2005-2008 years. The car in stock form is still a car that hangs with most everything put on the street; styling to me is the best of all VETTEs released; performance is still very competitive; yours is almost paid off; you will continue to look back even if you go through with the sale and trade. I did this with a 2000 COUPE I had and bought a super nice truck and always looked back. Good luck with your decision!

A paid off car that is already faster than 99 1/2% of all cars on the road and looks and drives great too has a lot going for it. More power could potentially mean more broken parts or problems. And, you've already got both types of vehicles that you want. I guarantee if you buy the Jeep you will have driving situations where you will wish you were behind the wheel of the Vette you have now. Every time I'm in a situation where I need to be faster than some jerk, or I'm driving along side with another Vette, it seems I'm driving my pickup. I'm glad it's still back in my garage to go home to.

Whenever I think of selling/trading my Z, I remember all the great cars I've owned, and was sorry I didn't keep them.

How long have you owned the Z06? Surely your not bored/tired of it are you? I bought my QS 02 Z06 a couple months ago with 60k on odo...paid $19,500... I love it, but it's also new to me & paid in full...that does feel great!
I agree that you have best of both worlds owning vette & jeep..as I also have a 07 Toyota fj cruiser paid in full too..

Funny, I went the opposite direction and ended up with my Z. I've been waiting patiently for a couple years for the new engined Wranglers. I really miss my '97 TJ. I was going to trade in my jacked F250 (paid for) on one but earlier this year I went the opposite way and got my Z. I figured I already had a nice offroad vehicle and now I have a kick **** car to boot. When the Z is paid for I'll get rid of the truck and get my Jeep and then I'll have both. Seems you already have both so if you can just hold off on going upgrade crazy to the Z hang on to it, unload the TJ, and get the new Jeep. Or just stick with what you have and save some dough.

Too Ironic. I was hoping someone would make the decision for us on this one. I am struggling with the same question on my 03Z (22,000 miles) other than I have the four door Rubicon. Have had the car for a couple of years, done all the basic mods, cold air, headers, catback, coilovers, wheels, rotors, pads, etc. and had planned to move on to SC, cam & clutch and now I am debating. Do I continue to dump money into this car, which I like and the looks of the FRC, or is one better off upgrading to a C6?? I'm leaning towards keeping the 03, dump the money into and enjoy what I have. I figure, no matter what I replace it with, the mods will start all over again anyway. It's a terrible addiction, but sometimes you have to try and apply logic, futile attempt.

To all of you that like me live in Snow Country. You know that every spring getting the Z out of the garage for the first time is like having a new car, and there is a reason that the milage is as low as the couple of you have... it's the snow. Also once the Vett is paid for (not counting mods) it really doesn't cost but the insurance, and I would bet that Old Z insurance is cheaper then New 4door Jeep, and then there is the sales tax, reg act. And I'll bet that if you drive the Z with some sanity the fuel milage is even better.

Plus you will not be able to come here and tell every one what you have been up too.

Mark.

I am a big Jeep fan and I traded my Jeep for a Z and I am trying to sell my Z so i can get a Jeep back, but if i could I would most definitely keep My vette every time I get in it and start it up I get a huge smile on my face and I dont want to get out of it, but just like you i would much rather have something I can drive year around.
