got new tires put on, installers say TPM is dead on FP and going dead on LD sides...yet the car is still reading numbers...if one is dead, shouldn't it be NOT giving a reading? Also, about 2 hours later I get this on DIC "Active Handling Warming Up." Stayed on for like 5 seconds and turned off...never seen it before, nor heard of it...is this normal and what exactly is warming up?
Can't comment on the active handling but you're right about the TPMS sensors.. The batteries are probably getting tired but you might get several more years out of them.. Hard to tell...
The warming up message is common.
If you had just started the car and made several turns before going straight, the warming up message comes up. The car is waiting on you to go a good stretch of straight driving before the active handling sensors center themselves. I would not worry much about it.
If your TPM sensors are pulling readings on the DIC, then you are fine as well.
The installer would not have a way to check for dead sensors unless the sensor fails to communicate with the car, which is clearly not the case.

They have a life of about 7-10 years, I bought all new ones when I had my tires installed this year, If it is working I would guess it is still good for now, As far as A/H warming up that is normal when you first start up your car and have the wheels turned and take right off. Mine will do it now and then.

Active Handling System Light
The Active Handling System light will come on briefly
as you start the engine. If the light does not come on
then, have it fixed so it will be ready to warn you if
there is a problem. The light will also come on while the
system warms up and the ACT HNDLING WARMING
UP message will be displayed in the Driver Information
Center (DIC).
If the light stays on or
comes on while you are
driving, a chime sounds
and a SERVICE ACTIVE
HNDLG message appears
on the DIC, there is a
problem with your Active
Handling System and your
vehicle needs service.
The driver can acknowledge this message by pressing
the RESET button. When the SERVICE ACTIVE
HNDLG message is displayed, the Active Handling
System will not assist you in controlling the vehicle.
You should have the system serviced as soon as
possible. Adjust your driving accordingly.
When the system is working, you will see the ACTIVE
HANDLING message displayed in the DIC. You may
also feel or hear the system working. This is normal.
If the driver turns off the Active Handling System by
pressing the button on the console, the Active Handling
System light will come on, a chime will sound, and the
TRAC/ACT HNDLG OFF message will be displayed in
the DIC. The Traction Control System will also be
turned off. See “Driver Information Center Messages”
in the Index for more information.
If the Active Handling System and the Traction Control
System are off, pressing the console button momentarily
will turn both systems on. The DIC will display the
TRAC/ACT HNDLG ON message, the instrument
cluster light will be off, and a chime will sound.
See “Driver Information Center Messages” in the Index

In the future, what should a TPMS cost? I see them in Ecklers for 150-170...is this about right?
Your profile says you have a later model Vette, You can buy new TPM from Tire Rack for about 38 bucks each, That is what I paid for my 2002 set-up.
