Default Getting into 1st gear

switched my shifter and box out of my 02 and suppossedly put in a 2008 Z06 sifter and box, has anyone experienced it hard getting into first gear ? Took it all apart again and everything is mounted just fine,I dropped the pin in the nuetral positon before I started, all the gears are there, but i almost have to slam it left to get into first,2nd on is no problem, I had to take the boot off to get it over far enough to get it engaged,if boot is on, no way. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks Al

Hopefully you losened the mainshaft in the shifter, after you lowered the alignment pin otherwise nothing changed. If you did and you are still having 1st gear issues, I suggest you contact the forum supporter RPM Transmissions as they are the experts.

I had the top secure on the shifter box, and wriggled it around untill the pin dropped in, then secured the whole unit in the car, placed and secured the bolt 1n the output shaft to the trans link, tightened down the box and pulled the pin. Did I miss something ?
thanks Al

Normally its just putting the shifter in the middle position, lowering the pin down therefore it now should be locked up tight. Looseing the large torx screw holding the shaft which should allow the transmission/shaft to center itself, tighten, then pull up the pin back into the storage position. It sounds like you may have done that.

ok, did that this morning on your advise, sent me the link, and that is exactly how I did it, twice actually. Am thinking will have to take the box out and put my old one back in with the ZO6 stick on it. Don t think it will matter, maybe something is worn on the stick or in the box

Got my problem resolved,I guess when u buy something off the forums, you pay your money and take your chances, bought the shifter and box from a guy on here, anyway, not gonna bash him, took it all apart again, took the "new ZO6 " box out, swiched the shifter onto my original box,and works perfect. I have it down pat now, can r and r in 20 minutes or less now. Lesson learnt, buyer beware.

I would think how they work would be physically the same but who knows. Congrats on making things go again.
