What's the best partition to get for my new baby?
I've seen some for $60-$70 and some for $360 bucks.
Which one do you have and how do you like it?
Which one do you WISH you'd have gotten and why?
Help me out here guys, my Vette's new and I'm in the "nurturing" stage and feel I need go forage out and bring it back something. :) :)
Maybe this is the CRO-MAGNON stage?
If you can afford it the Z06 Parts partition is by far the class of the field. The fit is great, the carpet color is EXACT, it cuts down on road noise, and it makes the radio sound  .
I've got the Eckler's model; two inches thick foam, carpeting on one side with "Corvette" in red script in the middle, compression fit. Works great, really cuts down on the road noise.
I bought the $360 one. I got it becuase at the time it was the only one available. Now that I have it and I've seen the others I'm glad that I have it. I think it's the best quality.
I have one of those expensive ones. The nice part about it (as opposed to the foam ones) is that if you have stuff in the trunk, it's pretty well blocked off from the passenger compartment. In an accident, or a hard stop, loose articles can become hazardous projectiles. A foam barrier won't do much, but the wood ones could make a big difference. It also looks really nice. Mine has a big C5 symbol on it, and it looks great even from outside the car. Most people have no idea it's an aftermarket item. It cut down on noise a bit, but it's not sealed around the edges (for the purpose of allowing air to pass back and forth, and making the closing of trunk and doors easier) but that lets noise through. I am thinking of getting some decent acoustic foam, and lining the back side of the partition, and sealing the cracks. I'm also going to be putting some lightweight acoustic foam under the carpet in front of the partition and behind the seats. Hopefully that'll cut out some of the annoying road noise.
Got the Lloyd's cargo mat and floor mats too. With the partition, the highly subjective nonscientific Tom T. hearo-meter says there's at least a fifty percent reduction in road noise and booming.
I say build your own. I helped a friend build one for his car we got two pieces of foam board and sanwiched dynamat between them and then carpeted it. fits great and really cut the sound. The heavy ones kindof defeat the purpose of the z-06 it is supposed to be light weight. I mean they probly cancel out the weight savings of the titanium exhaust.
I am the friend he is talking about. Great mod!!! Foam board does not seal as well because it is a little on the flimsy side, but still made a tremendous difference. Thanks Greg for helping!!!! See you at graduation!!!!!
Yeah ,It weights in at 12.6 lbs wet. Most guys unsnap it if they are looking for all out weight reduction.
A good healthy texas girl might weight more .If you don't have one of those and you want a quiter car,Pull the passenger seat out and leave the girl behind ,The passenger seat weights more than the partition.
I will see what the titanium exhaust really weights. Now I am curious.
I ordered a Z06 Parts Partition from Andy through a group purchase on the z06 vette .com site and I'm very happy with it. The only negative side is the wood smell that it leaves in my car which I doubt there is any way to avoid. I'm sure that will go away in time. The partition is very high quality and does look like a factory item. I recommend it. And it comes out very easily when you want to weight reduction at the drags.
Its probably not the "Best" but I've posted instruction on how to make one for $17 in parts from Walmart and Lowes. It a carpeted one, very close to exact match on black, big cutdown on road noise. Its easy to make, you can do a search for the instructions. Otherwise, the $360 one is the best.
I built mine using NCVETTEMAN'S advice. I am amazed for $13.25...(got the foam free and a professional shop covered it for a case of CocaCola). My wife , who is VERY particular and fussy, loves it and commented "it looks like factory". Stereo is improved, A/C works better and some tire noise is kept in the trunk...still hear that sweet exhaust. :smash: :D
I also bought my partition from Andy (the 360 one) , and I am very happy I did. I could have tried to make my own, but once I got a chance to see the examples of his work I was sold. Customer service is outstanding!!
