I have experienced something that I'm sure others have. Whenever I open my hatch (coupe car) after it has rained or the car has been washed, the standing water on the surface runs down the hatch, and follows the rubber weather stripping where it falls off into the car and into the hole behind the rear speaker where the shock towers go.
While this may not hurt anything, it makes me nervous that it goes in the little hole where the speaker is so close.
If anybody has a fix for this, I'd like to hear it.
My "fix" is when I open it I only lift it 1/2 way. This lets the majority of the water run off into the proper channel. Then I lift it all of the way up.
I had a C-4 that I noticed did the same (now have a FRC). I believe I read a magazine piece about dealing with the issue on C-4's & it involved drilling a couple of holes & installing a short piece of tubing for draining. I didn't pay too much attention after I read about "drilling holes" in my vette, ha, ha...I kept a rag handy when I owned the C-4...
I really don't think that is going to drain near the speaker, it runs back about 6-8 inches and there is a hole that would be close to the gas filler. I am almost sure those are drain holes that channel the water outside the interior. If you look at the rear area where the hatch closes there are two more area in the left and right rear corner that will do the same thing.

Its the water that is actually on the rear hatch that rolls down where the glass meets the hatch and then off the front facing section. If you have an early model C5 then the water will pour into the cargo area where as if you have a post 99 or 2000 then you will have a little extra tail on the weather stripping which will kick most of the water out and into the channels you are talking about.
I agree that they "fixed" this on later C5s, but I remember reading in "All Corvettes are Red" book that the early C5s had waterproof rear speakers, so NO DESIGN FLAW.
