I use an oil filled radiator type electric heater made by Pelonis to keep the edge off all winter. Attached garage, insulated garage door too. On most winter days the 500W setting will keep the VetteCave at 50 plus. On the 1500W setting the heater will do 60 plus even at sub 20 temps. Very safe heater as well.
Insulating the garage door made a big difference all by itself!
I never tried one of those in the garage but I do use one in my su room in the winter and also I use one in my 19' camper in the winter.
Works great in the camper, I never have to turn on my furnace, and it does ok in the sunroom.
I've been looking for a heater for my garage for 5 years and can't decide on one. I don't want to spend a bunch of money on something that doesn't work like I want it to.
I don't think I would go with propane though. It runs about 2.30 a gal here, which is BS by the way.
I think an oil heater like this to keep it warmed up to a low temp, then a propane type torpedo heater to really get it warm when you're in it may be the best solution.
Of course if money is no option go with a full propane type wall heater with a blower on it.

yes. there are lots of options, and some good ideas on this thread that I like. If money was no option, I would be going radiant heating for sure.

I have a torpedo as well but I never use it anymore. If I am going to work in the garage I just plug in another radiant type electric heater I have made by Holmes. Between the Pelonis and the Holmes I can get the VetteCave into the low 70's even on the super cold nights, which here, in Oklahoma means the teens outside!
If money is no object,,,,,you can't beat infrared. You can get a tan as well!
i'll leave that one up to the reader's imaginations
just painting a picture - i do all my car work in the winter still wearing the same stuff i wear in the summer. just suuuuucks to open that door and test out the changes
I have a 42'x60' Morton Pole Barn at the back of my property. I don't heat it all the time but when out there and need heat I depend on my Reznor Waste Oil heater. Doesn't cost much to run and perfect for my large building. Still I would not run it all the time although it runs smooth and is set up with a thermostat. The Reznor heater will also run on regular heating oil or kerosene if you don't have waste oil to burn.
I have a nat gas furnace horizonal in the atic. I'm not to sure electric wouldn't be cheaper, the way gas prices have increased the last few years. At least in my area. I was really surprised at the utility cost on houses around here. My son got married and bought his own place last year. As they were looking at differant places, I told him not to even look at homes with electric heat. I'm old school, and gas was always cheaper to heat with in the past. I was really surprised to see some of the utility bills at some of the homes we were looking at. I think if I were going to install something at this time, I'd find out what the cost per btu is, and then make my decision on that. I've always heard you get 100% of what you pay for from electric, where you only get 80 or 90% from gas forsed air. Some of the heat does go out the flue.

Our local Fire dept had these and they bleached out the red on the trucks.
