looking to buy a battery jumper for my vette, what should I look for in amps?, cost not an Issue. I am thinking the more amps the better, ( right or wrong) my vette is a 2000 6 speed with every option they had that year. THANK YOU in advance (GINO)
If you are refering to jumper cables to get the car started when the battery dies, don't do it. From what I understand, the chances for frying your electronics or that of the donor car is a high possibility. I think you may be refering to a "portable" jumper box. That is the way to go. I have one from Sears. The problem with these is every month you have to plug them in for 12 hours to recharge them. Forget to do this and they are usless.
When I know my car is going to sit for more than two weeks I connect it to my Battery Tender. ($65) Has never failed to keep my Harley (now gone) and my Vette's battery powered up 100%.
If you want really good jumper cables buy a set made for a 6 volt car. Since a 6 volt car draws more amps the cables used are heavier and can conduct more current without problems.
Read a tech article that said that the load placed on stock alternators trying to recharge a flat battery generates a lot of heat that could ultimately shorten its life. A good charger or maintainer would be a better investment!!
