I have never owned a vette before but am going through a midlife crisis so I am taking the plunge . I'm looking at a z06 2001. Here is the link to the car. Is there anything I should be looking for for this particular year and model? Thanks in advance for responses!
Rims aren't right, or they have been chromed aftermarket. The car is definitely lowered a lot (might be bottoming out). So I would try to figure out how the car was lowered. Is it running coil-overs? The car has had the center stack modified to fit the double-din navigation unit. It doesn't look like it was done well/professionally to me. This could easily be fixed with a call to DoubleD Mods. Looks like the car has an aftermarket intake, but I am not enough of an expert to tell you what it has. It looks like there is a sticker identifying it though. The car has an aftermarket trunk divider and trunk lid cover. There is an aftermarket shifter.
Personally I would prefer a stock car. But if you like the mods, and the car checks out, the mileage is good. I really don't care for the chromed rims, but that is a personal choice. In 2001, the Z06 had magnesium rims (1 year only) and they might be very hard to find if you wanted to go back to stock.
Some 2001 Z06's had oil consumption problems, caused by Piston ring Blow by. Look for little specs of oil on the rear end after driving hard. That shifter is not stock. Don't know who's it is. Anything is a good upgrade! The Stereo head unit is obviously not stock. Car looks lowered. The coupler for the Airbridge to throttle body is not stock. That looks like Stinger or GHL Exhaust. Again not stock, but a good mod! The Wheels are heavy aftermarket Chromes, Not the Alcoa light weight forged originals. But the cars does look to have Baer Eradispeed rotors, Again that's good! That's all I could tell from the pictures. Hope that helps.
Wondering about exhaust tips. 2?? They say all stock.
Exhaust is definitely not stock. I missed that one. It should have four titanium tail pipes. I would make sure it still is running cats (stock it should have 4 cats in '01). I have no idea how tight emissions are in Florida, but in California they are VERY tight.
I agree with the observations above. Lowered, exhaust, wheels, shifter, throttle body... I would look closely at what kind of exhaust and make sure it still has the cats. I'm also concerned about the lowering. This can be a serious and costly problem if not done properly.
My recommendation would be to take the car to a shop that works on Vetes (especially if they do a lot of mods). They can tell you if the mods are well done or not.
Thanks guys. I really appreciate the advice. What do you think about the price? Car fax checks out with no accidents. I have heard about the oil consumption but have also read of owners with no problems.
I think the price is reasonable, if not slightly high. I would try to get the car for $20K. But prices a different regionally. If this were a '02-'04 car and stock, it would be a great value.
Also has gauge bezels, shift boot, ****, letter inserts on back and dash, battery compartment cover, trunk lid corvette insert, and a Z06 emblem on the rear. Looks like a vararam intake to me. I would ask for info on the previous owner, if it wasnt bought at auction, you can get contact info to ask about pro's and con's and why the last guy got rid of the car.
Looks like a nice clean car with a few bolt ons like intake, shifter, that looks like a Borla catback, trunk separator, Eradispeed rotors, chrome wheels since chrome rims werent an option on '01's I'm pretty sure.
Miles are low, so for around $20K its a good deal.
Great info guys. In really appreciate it. I offered them 18 and they ca,e back at 21. I think we're a little off. Keep the suggestions coming!
I would let them keep it at 21k or even 20k. You should be able to find an 02 for that price and not have to worry about the oil issue. This is my suggestion. For what it is worth. Find one that you know for sure what the history is and the reason for selling.
A poster above said that the wheels on the 2001 Z06 had magnesium rims. This is not true just to let you know.
The Z06 rims are Aluminum not Magnesium. Never offered from the factory in Chrome. One color only Gray.
The 2001 wheels were forged by Alcoa and the 2002-2004 wheels were spun cast by Finish Line. This is imbossed on the back of the wheel. If memory serves me correct, the Alcoas are slightly lighter.
