Hey guys i'm going to be adding a sub n amp to my 04 z06. I will be using the stock head unit. I've tried searching through the audio section and read that i can not use a high-low converter on the speakers due to the bose processor not sending low frequencies to the speakers..Atleast thats what they said about the rear speakers..i dont believe my 04z has rear speakers?? i never looked lol...
Does anyone have any tips or write ups on how to accomplish putting a sub n amp in a c5z with using the stock headunit? any help or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I just dug through my folder for things I've done ot the Vette and found that I installed a "PAC AOEM-VET1" in order to plug the amp for my sub into the stock head unit. Do a search for that and I'm sure you will find the answer to your questions. Mine says 97-01 on the back but it has worked fine in my 04 coupe for 3 years now. I DO have rear speakers so I think you will be just fine.
I'm pretty sure I asked questions on here about this before I did my install years ago so you may even dig up my old post. Having never done an audio install before it went very smoothly. Good luck

This is exactly what I did a few years ago when I installed a sub and amp in my Z. The PAC plugs into the back of the stock radio, and then the stock harness plugs into the PAC. The PAC allows you to run RCA cables under the shifter area and center console and down to you amp, which I recommend you mount behind the passenger seat on the back wall. DON'T FORGET TO MOUNT A 3/4" MDF BOARD TO THE BACK WALL BEFORE YOU MOUNT THE AMP!! If you mount the amp directly to the back wall, you WILL drill right into your fuel tank, which is bad . Mount the board with Liquid Nails glue. To wire the sub, you need to splice into the rear speakers (yes, your Z has rear speakers) and run speaker wire under the rear carpet to your sub. The power wire runs along the passenger side door jam and under the floor board through the rubber gromment up under the passenger footwell into the engine compartment and into the battery.
I think I have a few threads in the Audio section where I talk about the wiring. There are other good threads there, as I recall. Good luck!

i will be ordering the AOEM tonight..My only question is why would i need to tap into the rear speakers and run speaker wire from the speaker to the sub if i'm taking the low frequencies from the AOEM tapped into the headunit going to my amp? I'm not new to installing systems, i think your referring to running highs and lows to the sub..I only want the Low frequencies (bass) going to the sub.

Once you pull your OEM radio, the power harness is made up of 3 sections. In the bottom section of the harness, you will find your rear speaker wires. They are: Brown (RL+) and yellow (RL-), Blue (RR+) and Lt Blue (RR-) These are the the wires you need to tap into for your signal. When splicing into wires I like using the Military Splice method. You will have to tap into your fuse box for the remote turn-on power for your amp.

More info coming this weekend maybe next week

dennis i just placed an order last night for the AOEM
ok now this is getting confusing..people are saying the AOEM is plug and play.now people are saying i have to tap into wires?? lol
raydawg are you referring to NOT USING THE AOEM..my original plan was to use a high-low converter and tap it into the speakers..BUT i reead that the bose system filters out the low frequencies to the rear speakers.
again my car is a 04Z06.idk if they changed it up or not..the stuff i was reading was pretty old.

He is wrong on taping the wires.
You do not need to do this with the aoem-vet1
I have 2 new options I am going to be testing out that will require this. but the aoem-vet1 will not need tto do what he says.
I don't know if it's the same set up but when I used to have my z28 car toys installed amp and sups and had to disconnect the rear speakers bc I used my stock head unit. I have 2 tens and a 1200w amp in my 02 z06 now And it sounds awsome car toys build a custom box and all but I had to change my head unit for it to work
Don't do it! lol My kid just put that stuff in his 03 Impala. Talk about annoying!
He just does not play good music, I am assuming. Once you have a nice system installed you will never go back to a factory set up. Getting a new head unit will make it much nicer.

You have another option. A 12" bass tube will fit perfect down in the hole. Amp is mounted on the back wall. Before and after photos. Just wanted something different and it don't look half bad.
