I have a stock 2002 Z06 with 8,500 miles on it. It has the original tires on the car that show virtually no wear. I am concerned about running this old of a tire. Has anyone had any issues with running a tire this long, concerned about safety. they show no signs of dry rot, but 10 years is a long time for any tire. Also, if I were to replace them, is there a EMT or Run Flat version for the C5 Z06?
Most folks here will tell you that a performance tire shouldn't be used as such after about two to three years. The compound doesn't quite do what it did when it's new. I would look for some new tires if you planned on driving the car hard.
There are some options for EMT or run flats but it will make the ride more harsh because the sidewalls are so stiff. There are several non run flat options out there. It just depends if you want performance or longevity. I'd look at Tire Rack or Discount Tire. Just make sure to search the tires by the size. For some reason if you search by the car it doesn't pick up all the available choices.
Typically in this scenario I would urge you fervently to replace your tires ASAP. However, since you barely ever drive the car (you're averaging only 70 miles per month), I say don't even worry about replacing the tires unless you actually notice a loss of traction. I'm assuming you never drive in the rain or the cold, and when you do drive you're not pushing it too hard, so it's just not that big of a deal.

wow, talk about all orignal. on my 4th set, at $1300 a set, thats runs into some real money.
I would wait till it gets warmer, and go to a road course and "use um up". a win-win situation. get a new set of tires, and have some fun with the old ones.

Not unless you are willing to go down in tire size. There are some run flats that will fit your rims ... but I would just get the tires that suit your driving requirements and put TPMS sensors in. Once you get the system enabled it will warn you if you pick up a nail so you can find a safe place to deal with it. If you have a catastrophic tire failure it won't matter if they are run flat or not, you're walking at that point.
