C5 Rearview Cam install
I got a rearview cam - BOYO VTL120 (Black) the license plate one and wanted to install it. I currrently have the kenwood DNX 6160.
I took the license plate of my vette and was wondering how did you run the wire of the rearview cam into the trunk. I dont see any opening and want to avoid drilling/cutting into the trunk.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated
Thanks

Also what did you hook to the light. I have 3 wires; the video component wire (yellow). I believe that will get hooked into the video socket of the kenwood. Then I have 2 bare wires, black and red and i think the former is ground and latter is for power which I can hook them up to the wiring hareness.
The only thing i dont get also is the purple wire from the kenwood what do i hook it too. So that when I go on reverse the cam gets activated.
Anyway I first need to figure out how to get the wires into the trunk. One thing at a time.
Any one installed a BOYO, please share
Thanks

The purple wire can be spliced into the backup lights.

Below is a pic of how it looks.

So if you have the same rearview camera and you never did something like this before.
1. I ofcourse ran the wiring under the carpeting.
2. I used the vent opening at the rear driver side. You will need to remove the inner rear driver side gut to access it (dont know what you call it). The thing that cover the trunk lock and have the extenders to hold the top when you slide it in the trunk.
3. You will need 26AWG hookup wiring (got it from Amazon.com). I needed extra length to run the power (RED Wire) and ground (BLACK Wire) of the camera from my kenwood headunit to the backup light
4. A couple of 3M, single connectors to use to tap into the backup light
5. Of course the purple/white wire from the harness is wired using the 3M connector to the power wire (Green wire; A) of the backup light.
6. The Red wire (power) of the rearview camera is also wired to the Green wire of the backup light using the connectors.
8. The black wire (ground) of the rearview camera is wired to the black wire of the backup light using the connectors.
NOTE: In the picture I have 2 red circles. The were plastic tabs that were in the way of the rearview camera frame. I chose the option to cut them using a dremel coz I wanted to keep the camera frame intack. The other option is to cut the frame and leave the top piece. Also make sure with a blade to make a notch so the wire from the camera is not squeezed. The notch will be behind the frame edge.
Thats it, if you have the connectors and the wiring, the camera, basic tools it should take about an hour for this project
Hope this helps newbies
Thanks
