I'm not from Boone, but get my C5 into Boone 3 or 4 times a year. While I love Boone, the downtown roads are not C5 friendly. The C5 scrapes several times a day while I drive around Boone. The weather isn't too welcoming to the C5 either. Several months of the year are icy, cold, wet, and slippery.
With all that said, summer in Boone is a C5 paradise for driving and enjoying the mountain scenery. There are some great back roads around the Boone vicinity. The Blue Ridge Parkway is just a stone's throw outside of Boone City limits.
I always enjoy getting into Banner Elk via 194 and 184 visiting Beech Mt.
Lost the trans pulling the long grade coming up to Boone 2years ago, Over loaded the car trailer by 4 - 5 K lbs. over weight. Headed for Mtn. City. Best people in the world in Boone. Five A.M. the hwy dept. comes by and gives me flares. 10 mins later the head mechanic at the Boone Dodge dealer drives up in his dually on his way to work and stops. Checks under my truck and confirmed the cooler line blew off at the trans and dumped all the trans fluid. State police stopped and asked if they could help. Tow driver pulled us up to the top of the grade, Helped unhook 32' car trailer and dodge mechanic hooked his dually up to the trailer and pulled it into Boone for me. Dealer parts dept. sold me the new upgraded cooler line with threaded fitting instead of quick connect cooler line with plastic retainer that melted and allowed the cooler line to blow off and dump the trans fluid out on the road. Every one was so friendly and helpful. Filled the trans with 10 -12 qts. and hit the road again. Definitely one of the nicest places in the Carolinas. Beautiful scenery and great people. Thankyou people of Boone, N.C.

My family has a home 5 minutes outside of Boone in Vilas. It is one of the ultimate places in the world to have a Vette. The parkway can't be beat. Nothing like going over the Viaduct on a beautiful Fall/Sping/Summer day.
If I could move there tomorrow full-time, I'd be gone.
Graduated there in '85. Awesome spring summer and fall. Winter - that is another story. I live in the foothills. Tons of great roads made for vetts. 421 north of Boone to Bristol, rivals Tail of Dragon without the traffic jam. Awesome place, especially now that they have beer in Boone!
I live near Asheville, NC on the other side of the mountains and it is a beautiful place to live. Boone is a great small town, home of Tweetsie Tech (otherwise known as Appalachian State University ) and other amusement parks, great skiing, and the roads are not that bad. Depending on what you want done to your Vette I would look to a larger town south like Hickory or even Charlotte to have anything major performed. Good Luck.
Thanks everyone. In the end I am hoping for a good mechanic shop that will treat my C5 with respect and care when it needs to be inspected. Even good shops can bang up your car, or damage the rocker paneks, when lifting, etc... I am spoiled now as I never have to worry when bringing my car to County Corvette in SE PA, as they are always trustworthy that way.
The roars should not be an issue since I use my vette for pleasure driving only, and I know which areas not to drive in to avoid bottoming out...
