Today me and a buddy started tearing the car down to install a custom grind cam thats similar to a MS3. Found out some interesting things along with confusing things. First I have yellow ls6 valve springs BUT 3 are just bare metal and they are all on the passengers side. The drivers side are all yellow, you can see them in the pics ill provide. I also found out why my AC is never cold. Theres a tube leading into the condenser that had a bolt in it that was only hand tight and refrigerant was leaking from it. So anyways heres the pics!
Good luck on the cam swap!! You'll fall in love with the car all over again after the tuning is done. I just got through giving my Z a new cam and gears and I love it. It's a blast to drive and listening to it at idle makes me smile.
Make sure to check the intake and exhaust valves when you change the springs. The only reason I mention this is when my cam was swapped it was discovered that I had several valves sticking and one was bent. Good luck on the swap and I sure hope that you don't have any sticking valves since it can get expensive to pull the heads if you replace all the gaskets and such on the re-install. But better to check then to have it break down the road shortly after pulling the cam.
So ofcourse my tax returns are "delayed" and my car is STILL sitting in the garage torn apart. I wont be receiving my refund until wednesday but atleast texas speed can overnight the cam package to me! We have started taking valve springs off however and so far so good. At TDC the valves are only moving a few millimeters then hitting the pistons. Ill have to wait to do the rest when the new springs come in. Once again pics will be added as we go!
