My wife has an '04 coupe. Still has OEM tires. She complains about road noise. We've had the discussion about why there is tire noise with Vettes and she understands. We also pulled up all the carpet and put sound deadener under everything. But, to help her out I said I'd spring for a set of new shoes if we could find something quieter than OEM's. Must be all-season and run flat. Doesn't drive many miles. Give me some ideas, please.
I just installed my Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus run flats and so far so good. I got them in stock size for my stock wheels. the AS means All Season---since I drive the vette everyday, I wanted these better than summer only tires.
I recommend going non runflat and check Tire Rack online. I bought a set of General Tire Exclaim UHP in stock sizes for $425 (back in 2007) shipped to my house. All test results were excellent on the site. As far as road noise, if it's any guage at all, my wife and I drove to Florida from VA when she was 4 months pregnant without issue. I've had them on the car since June 2007 and haven't had one issue.
In general, GY run flats are very noisy and rough riding, especially if they're old. They also will go 200 miles @ 50 mph if flat. Michelin run flats offer a much quieter/smoother ride, but will only travel 50 miles at 50 mph when flat. Non run flats, like the Hankook Ventus V12 mentioned by Vetteman Jack and used by many others on the forum, offer an even quieter/smoother/better handling ride, but if you have a flat you need a plug kit and pump or AAA.
These tires are great, quite, good grip and inexpensive ....side wall is softer than a runflat but you get used to it, got mine in July and have about 9,000 miles on them with no complaints.
in temps below 40 the mich/a s produce a high pitch sound like wind coming thru a slightly opened window. more so on very new road (smooth) surfaces. other than that they are good all round tires. pun intended!
The Michelin Pilot Sport AS plus EM is what you want.
GREAT tires and cost less than the OEM Goodyears.
They are All Season and Runflat and they wear well and grip great.
I have the Yokohama S.Drive on my Vette.
They are Summer tires but I use them all year.
It does not snow or ice here much so they work well.
They are quite and grip well, wet or dry.
I liked them so well that I put a set on my Honda Civic.
It is very loud in the civic and these tires help with that.
There are many tires to pick from so this may help you.
another vote for the General exclaim uhp's ---put them on my wifes vette and she loves them. Recommended them to my brother and a 2 good friends all are very satisfied. that being said, they are not runflats but, at the price you can afford to purchase AAA for several years and be money ahead.

+2 These tires are pretty quiet and dollar for dollar is the best priced performance tire you will find.

Same here... I had a set of Michelin A/S ZPs after two sets of GYRFs - switched to a new set of Michelin A/S Plus ZPs a couple years ago - 100% satisfied with the Michelins. Much quieter than the GYRFs.
I put a pair of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus run flats, on the front of my 2004 coupe. Thay make more noise on an asphalt road, than my 23,000 mile OE Good Year run flats ever did. It sounds like I have snow tires on the front of my car.
