Ok, I am just thinking long term, but wondered if anyone has worn out an engine and simply bought another one. I love my vette and I think the style is timeless. So when the time comes and my engine finally gives up the ghost. I would most likely buy another LS1 and press on. This is just a thought, I am sure there are some vette lovers who have done the same thing.
I really don't like to screw with original design., but I am indeed open to the idea of placing another LS engine besides the LS1. we shall see. Just speculating.
I'm doing the same in the future, I have too much $$$ tied up in body mods to get rid of mine. Plus I do LOVE it and it's cheaper than buying a new car. L8R ZFLASH
I got 88k out of my LS-1 10k later I have a bad a$$ LS-6 in it's place and now have a LS-1 on a engine stand getting rebuilt for my 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 sportside when the motor went down it was making 394 RWHP Imagine that in my truck LOL
I am already getting parts to build me an ls1 motor with tsp cam and 243 ported and polished heads. I an just needing some cash to get it all put together, like zflash said its cheaper than a new car. And my old ls1 is going into my 74 corvette
I'm still on my OEM LS-1 in my '99. At currently 325,000 miles, it still runs strong, great gas mileage and totally reliable. I did have the top end off to replace a failed lifter(s) so while there, replaced all of them, pushrods, rockers, guides, seals and springs.
i'm on my second engine in the truck - 150k & my stupidity caused me to break a rod.
i've had enough time & work in my truck that i couldn't bear to get rid of it (that & i didn't have the money to buy another), so i pulled the busted v6 out & upgraded to a v8. now it runs better, is more powerful, gets better gas mileage, and makes me happier.
the car - it's only got 49k on it, so there should be plenty of life left in it... but i'm gonna swap it out anyway for a bigger forged engine to better handle the boost. then i'm putting the LS1 in the truck
^ Everytime I see your mileage; it amazes me. 325,000 !! That is simply outstanding. Very cool man!
Thanks These days it doesn't get driven like it did before. Currently it trades places with my '07 in a storage unit about once every week and a half for several days at a time. So its not ignored. I might drive it to Bowling Green in April.
