Hey all I have a bad throw out bearing I think and a leaky torque tube I have done the research on how to drop my rear end and everything else. I have been studying it and have come up with another Idea about removing everything all together. My Idea is to drop the rearend and tranny as one then remove my torque tube by it's self so I dont need 2 people to do this. I feel that putting it back together in peices will allow me to put the TT back on with out having to align everything up as the TT will be lighter to install. Then use my custom rearend jack to lift up the rearend and tranny as I have a DTE Brace that holds all of it together has anyone done this before this way if you have please post up your thoughts. For me it seems easyer as it will be just me and my 14 yr old daughter doing this she is starting to be a gearhead. I think she thinks the vette is her's when she turns 16 NOT so any help would be great or thoughts, idea's, pictures.
I have read the thread that has all the pictures and how to's just dont think I can do it all like that and balance it to get it lined up. Also has anyone used a Tick adjuster with their clutch set-up and did you find it helpfull or a waste of money the reason I am asking this is the shop that just rebuilt my motor and TT added one to my build. I think it is the reason that it failed so quick. My car makes 430RWHP & 410RWTQ motor is strong but the T.O.B. died quick due to the fact it was set pretty stiff and the first 10k miles. I was easy on it making sure it was well broken in the next 5k I banged a few gears it was one night at the track first time since motor was done. I was banging 2nd gear at the strip and it made a noise still beat the chit-stang but was not able to run the car again. What started to happen is that when I would take off in first gear it would make noise like it is rubbing / grinding at take off then it will shift fine thur the gears but take off it well sucks so this is why I am takeing the car apart.
Dale, You're talking about dropping the diff, tranny and torque tube all at once? I think it can be done, but I would worry about it falling over etc. I did a clutch install on my FRC and we actually got pretty good at it, lol we could take everything apart in a couple hours. However my buddy has a 4 post lift at his house which made everything a lot easier. I would recommend if you are taking everything off at once buying a cheap tranny jack, that way you have 2 jacks so you can balance everything while you take it down.
I used 4 jacks to hold the drivetrain when I did it alone. Several must be rollers. Definately doable by yourself. Just take your time and be safe. Jacks are cheap.

I had help on day one, day two the beer was gone and so was the help. So I did it myself. Two jacks and a pair of ratcheting straps to pull it back together. Made it easy. Next time I ask for help putting it together instead of taking it apart. Or just do it myself and keep all the beer.
I've done 2 clutch jobs taking everything out as one unit (torque tube, transmission, and diff attached) with 2 jacks and no extra equipment. It isn't difficult at all.
