My RPM lv 5 4l60e just gave up the ghost and I am in the market for another transmission, may consider sending this one off to get it fixed but am not opposed to just buying a rebuilt one from a reputable vendor. Would love to hear recommendations to include board sponsors on what my options are. Car only makes 385 to the wheels on 3.15 gears and street tires. Even if I go with boost, I can't picture needing anything too extreme.
There is always more to the story friends. It is indeed a lvl 5 or was anyway. The original owner had it done and I even spoke to the dealer he acquired it through, B & B Corvette, Columbia, SC. This dealer also dynoed and tuned the car for the prior owner as well, and let me know he broke it in two years...with the same 385hp.. When I bought the car it felt sloppy and seemed to shift from 1-2 way too early. I just assumed it was the stall and 3.15 gears. Asked the owner about it and he said after he broke it, he just went elsewhere to have it rebuilt.
I took it to B & B Corvette to have the fueling and transmission shift points checked. I was told someone had since gone in and changed a lot of the original settings. Fueling was spot on but when I attempted to drive it, only first and second would engage. 3rd gear clutches were shot. I believe the last rebuild was a subpar one and increased line pressure or some band-aid may have been used; and when put back to stock settings, it gave out. Just theorizing here. I had it gone through last week and not much is left of the original parts in the car, except the sun shell, actuators and shift kit. I bought the car at the time with the understanding it was a lv 5, not a lv5 broken and then given to hacks to fix. They did not even use Z pack clutches! That's pretty much it. Don't plan to go past 550whp with this car so I need to start from scratch.
