Ive just about got my LS6 back together from the valve spring break i suffered last summer. made some upgrades and looking to add a few more. i noticed my old balancer has a pretty serious grove cut into it. i figure itll leak for sure if i use it. so im gonna hafta replace it. ive noticed lots of underdrive pulleys for sale and i wonder whats the down side here? does the ac work right on those hot summer days? what about water temp and keepin the water pump working like its supposed to? and any alternator or power steering issues? it looks simple...too simple! the first rule in makin power "you dont get sumfin for nuffin" itll cost ya sumwhere sumhow comes to mind. whats yawls experience with the underdrives. thanks for any input.
They do spin the accessories slower and some folks may have an issue with that. There is also the contention that they (some) are not really harmonic balencers and do not remove any harmonic vibrations from the engine, that can lead to some negative results. Depends on what pulley you get.
I just put an ASP 25% underdrive pulley on after a top end rebuild and I haven't noticed anything that makes me nervous. I guess when the TN heat starts up again I'll really be testing it.
I would get a pulley that doesn't have the "rubber" insert on the inside and I would stay away from it if it is much heavier than the stock pulley.
I put that setup on a 98 mustang cobra 32 v engine. Never had any issues with it after about 70k miles when I sold it. I'm not sure it gave me that much more hp but it theoretically should make the accessories last longer. If you want real power go with a twin turbo setup.

I've used them on other cars, and they were helpful for a few ponies. I had no side effects, but I would definitely say to make sure you buy a quality well build piece.
With that said, I doubt I'll buy another one. I noticed a lower voltage at idle and a decrease in air conditioning efficiency at idle, especially with a cam installed. And I very much like to stay cool.
