Default Headlight Help please!!

Recently my front passenger headlight (the outermost of the 2) went out. I pulled the plug from the back of the housing as told, and got a long skinny bulb with a straight connection bulb

the old bulb

Its is stamped model 9006 on the bulb

So i went to a nearby auto store and bought the suggested sylvania silverstar 9006, but the plugs DO NOT MATCH UP AT ALL!! The new one has a right angle turn to it, and will not connect.

The new Bulb----

How do I get this to work??? Ive spent hours researching and searching threads, posts, websites, calling, etc, and cannot get an answer!!

Thanks for any and all help!

Some of the pictures don't work on my phone, but if it was a long skinny bulb it might be an HID buld. The Silverstar by Silvania is the correct bulb for the car. You have to "wiggle" it to get in the socker since the tabs aren't spaced evenly.

That is an HID bulb your car has. It's aftermarket. Follow the wires to the ballast, and from the ballast follow the other cable to your factory socket/wire.

It has that HID box on both inner fenders, but I always believed that to e a stock 'Vette option... Is that correct, or would that make it aftermarket? And is there a way to just get the old cable and connect it from that box to the new "suggested" Sylvania?

No, it is not a stock vette option untill the C6 was available. Yes it is aftermarket for C5's to have HID's. Yes, the factory socket cable should be attached to one of the two wire leads from the ballas you are talking to me about. That socket will plug up to the bulb you bought. Ok, since you already unpluged the skinny bulb, there should be the second connection to the ballast, which provides power to light up the ballast and the HID bulb. Get that connection and it will match up to the Silvania bulb you bought.

Thanks MCVette, and thanks all for the help. I brought the bulb/connector to a few autoshops, and it proved to be an aftermarket HID bulb/ballast setup, and i needed to replace 1 bulb, and one ballast (luckilly the shop carried them both) Never dealt with the aftermarket lighting, so it was all new terminology/installation for me!
