We needed some fronts for the C5 so I started searching all of the online tire places. TireRack, Discount Tire Direct and a few other places.
I found one place that was significantly cheaper than TR...it was Discount Wheel Warehouse...but the reviews on them were enough to scare me away. While searching their reviews I found a post on a Toyota Forum (I think) that was from Discount Tire Direct and they said they'd beat any online advertised price including the shipping charge.
I filled out the form last night (Sunday) with the link to DWW and the pricing and got a call from DTD about 1030am EST.
So a little less than $8 saved, but I was surprised they stood up to their word. They are shipping from Ohio so they should be here in no time. He even beat the price with sales tax.
The tires were Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZP...we put two rears on last season so they only have about 3k miles on them.
Reviews on DTD look a lot more stellar from ResellerRatings than DWW. So if you need tires check them out. I'll report back to when I receive them to insure all went okay...its the first time I've dealt with them. Last time I dealt with TR and it was a great experience...but $50 is $50.
I had good luck with DTD on rears for an S2k. Made the appt on line and they were right on time - - think I spent maybe :40-:45 minutes there (arrive :15 before appt).

My last two sets of tires have come from Discount Tire Direct - always found them to be cheaper for the exact same product. Will buy my next set from them too.
I compared prices between Tire Rack and Discount Tire Direct when buying new Michelins for my C5 and got the lowest DELIVERED price from Discount Tire Direct. The tire price was lower at Tire Rack but shipping charges made the total price higher than Discount Tire Direct.
Very satisfied with the transaction and the tires.
Last year when I bought tires I ordered them from Discount direct. I ordered nitto nt555 275 40 17 for the front and NT 555 drag radials 305 35 18 for the rear. I had them installed at my local Discount tire store. I did not realize it till they were installed and I drove home but the rears turned out to be 305 40 18. I got lucky in that the DTD warehouse was about 15 miles from my house. I took my car back to the Discount store and they removed the backs. I then took the backs to the DTD wharehouse and they exchanged them. I had only driven about 3 or less miles but the guy stated he would not be able to sell them as new. They exchanged them with no cost to me. I took them to the store and the reinstalled them at no cost. The salesman at the store asked my why I ordered them from DTD and I told him they were a little cheaper than the store price. He said next time I needed tires that the Discount Store would match DTD. So if you guys are ordering from DTD and have Discount stores nearby, check and see if they will match for you.
My next problem is that they dont list Mickey Thompson and so I am probably going to have to order from Jegs or Summit now.
When I bought my tires last fall, I called my local discount tire store. They didn't have the Hankooks in stock and didn't act like they wanted to order them for me. So I bought from Direct and took them in to have them installled. $80.00 to mount and balance. The fellow that did the paper work asked me why I didn't just buy from them to begin with. When I told him my experiance, he said he would like to know who I talked with, but I didn't know. They said they would match directs prices at the store. Check your local discount prices too.
DTD offers good prices AND service. Have bought two sets of tires for my Avalanche from them. Tire Rack is close on pricing, and I used to buy a lot from them but not any more. Reason is they have a warehouse in my State and hence are obligated to charge (in my case 8.75%) sales tax.

That's what surprised me with DTD...since they operate in my state, they have to charge me sales tax and they beat the price.
Tires are on the UPS truck, will be here sometime today.
I worked for them, and was their forum guy for many years in early 2000s. they are still top notch, and make sure customers are happy...even if a bad situation happens, it gets fixed.

Exactly.
Tire Rack is an excellent vendor. I'm not going to take that away from them. But I don't particuarly like when you say a tire is $150, and then add shipping and other hidden charges.
Personally, I just hate that. For example, I got burned once dealing with a parts vendor that was cheaper than Gene (GMPartsHouse). Glossed over the shipping and final price and it ended up costing more for shipping the part. My fault completely, but I don't like that.
DTD lists the out the door pricing with no surprises, and thier pricing is usually a little bit lower. I've bought 4 sets of tires from them, and the longest I've ever had to wait was 2 days for the tires to be delivered. Absolutely no issue with them. And they sell Nittos, which is a brand TR doesn't sell.
