I do believe that the car and standards are DOT 3, no brainer.
some people use DOT 4. Its your choice.

Yeah dot 3 with regular lines. since I will have upgraded lines, might as well use a better fluid.

Use dot 3 it will not hurt the paint but dot 4 or5 will do so. But if you are going to road race use the dot 5 in her. Only diff per say is the heat point in it so the higher the dot the better it will hold up under heat..... YES I would get all the old out of it if the car hasnt had it all chged befor and if it is not clear in color.... Robert

Ditto. DOT 3 should be used. Dot 4 can be mixed, but will still boil at DOT 3 Temps unless the old stuff is completely purged. Moving to DOT 5 may cause you more problems with all your seals unless the entire system is being swapped out.

Upgraded lines? They just have a woven stainless outer shield instead of rubber over the inner tubing. Stronger yes, but no other difference.

Which ever one you go with purge the lines get all the old out of her... Robert

They will tell you, you will get a stonger feel in the pedal from the stainless line being on there from not flexing as much...

If you're heading to the track, then DOT 4 is what you want, and you'll want to flush the system prior to any and ALL events. I usually run a pint through the system prior to track visits, but on your initial flush perhaps a pint and a half would insure a complete flush.

Also, I'm pretty sure DOT 3 will eat the paint as well as DOT 4.

Motul 600 is what I use.

If you complete purge the system and replace with DOT 4 your dry boiling point will be approx. 446 degrees. Dot 3 dry boiling point is 401. Those temps are only valid if the system stays dry and the fluid is changed frequently.

if your system has been using DOT 3, stay with DOT 3, Motorcycles, racing, etc may use DOT 5, but if you have any residue, the fluids combine and turn to a waxy substance...

then you have to replace all components and lines...

I've seen people do solvent flushes, alcohol flushes, etc... it isn't worth the headaches, unless you are already replacing the entire system

ATE, Motul 600 and Castrol are about all the same price and around the same dry and wet boiling point. All are way more than you will ever need on the street. It took a little over a litre and a 1/2 to completely flush mine. That is the advantage to the ATE, it comes in blue and clear so you know when flush is complete. Update us on your results, especially with pedal feel.

If the OP will be doing track events he definately needs to switch to DOT 4...mixing DOT 3 and 4 will cause no issues, however going to DOT 5 requires a thorough flush.

DOT 3, 4, 5.1 are all the same polyethylene glycol based fluids, and can all be mixed together, swapped, whatever. 3/4 are easy to get and cheap as dirt. I use 4 in my car. One should note that the higher the DOT number, the more hygroscopic the fluid is and the more regular it should be changed, fyi.

DOT 5 is silicone-based fluid and should not be used in any system that use anti-lock brakes, or have not been completely flushed of 3/4/5.1 fluids. Even then you run the risk of ruining seals.

Nifty boiling point chart from wikipedia.
DOT 3 205 °C (401 °F) 140 °C (284 °F)
DOT 4 230 °C (446 °F) 155 °C (311 °F)
DOT 5 260 °C (500 °F) 180 °C (356 °F)
DOT 5.1 270 °C (518 °F) 190 °C (374 °F)
