Default Trick Flow's valve spring tool

Hello,

Has anyone used this tool yet or heard of it being used. It's offered at Summit, TFS p/n TFS90306. I am installing LG's on my Z and will be swapping out all the valve springs since I'll already have one valve cover off and all the spark plugs out.
I have noticed a lot of talk about the Crane cams tool. This one looks pretty much the same and it's about $54.00 less money.

Thanks,

Couldn't find it.
If it's a knock off of the dual Crane tool, then buy it.
I used the simalar one on my LS/6 spring change out & it worked great. Good luck.

I guess I'll be the guinea pig. I just ordered this to do my spring swap.

Just for all to see Trick Flow part #: 90306 is this...

Awesome, Please let me know and if you don't have a use for it after you do the swap I'd be happy to buy it from you. If you prefer to keep it just review it for us. I'm local.

I don't know about that tool.
I'd stick with the Crane tool or direct knock off.
It's allready been tried & true.
Good luck.

Trick Flow makes nice heads, so i would trust them. I have used both Crane tools for the LS1 and the LT1, and they work well.

Review:

Driver's side valves swapped out last night. First pair of valve springs, pain in the @$$. I would not blame this on the tool, though. I bought a hose to pump air into the cylinder for pressure, it had a handful of threads and then an o-ring to hold pressure. Once I had removed the keepers it developed an air leak at the head connection; not sure if I didn’t have it tightened enough in the spark plug hole or it just didn’t have enough threads to be in there good. But as the air is rushing out my heart rate rose as I was fighting with the keepers. The compressor had to cycle a few times through out this process but the valves were fine. Once I got the keepers back in I switched to the air hose from a compression tester I had that was a higher quality adapter for the spark plug thread.

Here’s my tip: use a small flat blade screw driver to put some pressure on the piece of the tool that compresses the spring to move the retainer around the valve to allow the keepers to slid in evenly. Once I figured this trick out, I probably spent as much time on the remaining 3 cylinders as I did the first playing around with the keepers.

I would recommend this tool others, good bang for the buck.

If I remember I'll get a few pictures when I do the passenger side, especially explaining my use of the screwdriver to help keeper install.

I'm going to keep it since I'm planning on some track days, I'll probably be changing springs out again in the future. Plus I horde tools, haha.
But if you want a hand swapping springs, I can bring the tool and help out.

Default air adapter

Hello, Just saw your post from 3/9, not sure how I missed it. Can you tell me where you got the air adapter that you didn't like from? I don't want to buy the same one. (I'm assuming there will be more then one manufacturer.)
I've ordered my springs and valve seals from gmpartswarehouse. Have my TB and PCM out getting modified and right now my two sons are helping put in the Vararam. it's a pain but using the forum members pictoral really helps. (cajundude)

Thanks

It was a cheap pick it up at the local parts store $8 one; made by Performance Tool

Here's a picture of it:

You can see how few threads there are; Like I said, it's very likely (read almost assuredly) that I just didn't tighten it down enough, but it made me nervous. Probably many others who have not had a problem.

The compression tester hose I used was made by Actron.

Default hose

Thats the same brand sold by Summit. There ia also a Moroso one but costs 29.00 andhas a couple adapters with it so may actually be very similiar as far as the hose assembly is concerned. I almost looks like the TFS tool ccan be used without having to completely remove it to reinstall the spings. I know a company I think its called LSM has a tool in which the part that contacts the spings rotates 90 degrees so after you remove the keepers you can put the springs in without having to remove the base of the tool. It looks really nice but they want about $220.00 for it.

Did my valve springs today. This is the hose I used. It worked good. For the springs I used a Crane dual valve spring tool. I hope I never have to do it again.

Yeah, I was probably an 1/8 of a turn away from not have any air leaking at all.
