Guys, I'm sure that you know this already but I just wanted to reiterate how safely built the C5 is. On Thursday of this week I was traveling on Rt 501 in PA at 70 mph when four doe dashed out in front of me. I did my best to aviod them but lost control of the car went off the road into a field, got airborne by about 15 feet and came nose down into the same field. The nose of the car was totally destroyed, as was part of the rear, both airbags deployed and all four tires were flat. The windshield did not break, I was able to open my door and walk away with only an embarresed look and a couple black and blues. The car was totally destroyed but by the grace of God and a well constructed vehicle I was not injured. Just wanted to share that..Anthony
I created a public album entitled C5 safety pictues under my user code.

Thanks Guys. The car can be replaced!! I think that I'm going to wait for a C7. Also, donot ignore any warnings regarding Active Handling, Traction Control or ABS. Although they were not of any help to me they are here if the law of Physics doesn't take affect...Anthony
LOL just kidding. I know its a mercenary bent, but you often do think about what may be salvageable when you hear of a C5 wrecked.
Yup, its pretty amazing. I had a deer strike in the SUV (managed to get it down to 20 mph or so, so no where near as dramatic (or lucky) as your situation) but not much damage.
Praying it doesn't happen in the C5, but if it does I'm pretty sure I'll physically be ok. I may need psych counselling....but physically Ill be ok
Glad to hear you walked away from what sounded like a pretty bad wreck. The C5 is a very safe car and very misunderstood by many who think because it's a Corvette it automatically can't be safe. On a lighter note going airborne with a C5 by 15 feet would have made a hell of a youtube video. No doubt it would of went viral! Again, very happy to hear your OK!
It sure would have made a great video!! But I'm not the only person to fly a C5. Two years ago at Englishtown NJ raceway park during an autocross event one of the guys there took his Z06 off the course, hit an embankment, got airborne and went into the lake!! He was OK but the car sank!!

I've had the fears of piloting the C5 and worried about the prospects of rolling one. I think the roll bar I installed has given me some reassurance. It's great to hear survivor stories and that you will continue your Corvette hobby!
Glad to hear you're okay, sorry to hear about losing the vette though. I just hit a deer about 3 weeks ago in my daily driver, and I was extremely thankful it wasn't my c5.
Deer are really dangerous when they are on the road.
I hit one at about 65 mph a couple of years ago with my '94. He hit the headlights and popped up over the roof. If I didn't have the headlights on, I think he would have come right through the windshield.

wow, glad you are ok. I too live in deer country, SE michigan...I see deer every day either in my yard or on the many 2 lane roads we have. One of the reasons I lowered my C5 as much as possible was in hopes a deer would simply slide over my roof if I hit it. They advise us here to not try to steer away if one runs in the car's path; just continue straight ahead...sounds easy, but instinct will be to swerve as you well know.
