In negotiations to purchase a 2001 Magnetic Red Coupe. Car has 31000 miles, auto trans, 3.15 gears, glass roof, sport seats, and FE1 suspension. Clean Car Fax. Having the car checked out by a mechanic.
Purchase price is $19000
I've been researching and it seems C5 prices vary widely. Does this seem like a good deal?
It seems a bit high in price. Unless it is the exact car you want, color combination and everything, and having low miles is a big bonus to you, then go for it. But for 19,000, I personally would rather just kick in another 3 grand and look for a Z06.
That price is right where it seems like it should be. The low miles is what helps raise the price some. I did look at KKB and in Very Good condition they list it at $20,786 and at a Good condition it is listed at $19,986. Now these will very from area to area and I did it for Tampa Bay area in Florida.
The think to remember is a used car is worth, what you are willing to pay and what the seller is willing to accept.
I also have a 2001 coupe that is optioned out with a 6 speed low mileage and if I were to sell it right now I would most likely be asking $20,500 or maybe even $21,000 which would allow by to come down a couple of thousand if I needed to.
The price is fair if the car checks out. There's always someone who says to spend a little extra for a Z06, or add a little and go to a C6, but not everyone wants a Z06 or a C6. An automatic C5 is a great car and this one has the right miles and presumably the right transmission for you. It's a really nice color, too. Why try to spend a little less and get a lot more miles or someone else's problems? If everything checks out, buy it and post pictures.

If the car checks out mechanically I'm buying it. Clean retail in my area is 21k according to NADA.com
I don't want a Z06 because I want the removable top. This would be Vette number two so I want the auto, my other Vette is a 6spd. I have the Car Fax, warranty/recall repair history, and the options listing. So far every thing checks out. All I need now is my mechanics blessing.
Sounds pretty good. I bought my 01 in July 2009 for $16.5K had 62.5K on the odometer. Had the car checked out and all was good. I would have much rather had what you are looking at, love that color. GL

Sounds like you have everything under control. You may eventually get tired of the glass top, but you can always buy a painted top later if that happens. Good luck and don't forget the pictures.

What I find ironic is that 2 1/2 years later in the winter no less I can't find a 2001 to 2004 mag red within 2k of that price (16.5k) and miles (around 50k), lol. Cheapest mag red with 50kish miles I've been able to find is around 18.9k. Evidently they're appreciating, lol. That sounds like a pretty good deal to me to the original poster if it all checks out.
I have been looking hard and will offer you this advice. It is priced about 1k to high but 1k is nothing if it's the right color combo you want. I certainly would not lose a ounce of sleep for paying 19k for that car. I love the Mag Red color.

Too high? Most of the low milage cars I've found are in the 22-24k range. That's for 2001 to 2004 cars. Maybe cars on the east coast are just more expensive.
Just for reference, I paid less for my 04 Procharged Coupe with 60k on it. But I was extremely patient and passed on many other Vettes. There are always incredible deals out there, but If you can't live without this particular one, then I say go for it.

Don't worry about it. If you posted on this forum that you could buy it for $10k, someone would say it's too high. I don't know why they talk them down, unless they are trying to buy and hope to make them cheaper. In my opinion, you can buy that car now and drive it a couple of years and still get a large part of your money back if you keep it nice.
