Paint Questions
I’m either keeping my vette pewter and painting a new front bumper to match or I’m going to have the whole car painted. I’m thinking of going with a super sonic blue paint job. When I go for paint is there a special way to paint it? Does the paint have to be mixed with something like a flex additive that only a top end paint shop can do or can it be done by any shop? How many coats should I get? I don’t want it to fade crack or chip within the first few weeks. Does any one recommend a paint shop in Massachusetts that does quality work? What can I expect for a price for a complete paint job doorjambs and all?

The new paint that is now used is actually applied in a thin coat. It is not like the old days when the painter would apply one coat after another. It is now the base coat - clear coat method and the clear is what protects the paint. Corvette clear coat is very hard and under normal conditions and normal maintenance (proper wash and wax) will give you a long lasting protection as well as shine.
Any good body shop should be able to paint your car, but to do a color change, properly, it means a complete disassemble of the car.

Be prepared to shell out some very serious money for a decent paint job. I would just paint the new bumper, even though I don't like Pewter Vettes. If i had to put a number on it, I'd say the average full repaint would be upwards of $7k but probably ranges from a few grand to over $15k depending on where you take it, how much disassembly you do yourself, and the color.
