I just saw on Yahoo news a headline of 10 cars you don't want during a gas crisis! Of course a picture of a beautiful red z-06 doing a burnout was the head lines picture. The truth is they don't get bad gas milage for a car of their caliber and besides that, I figure if you can afford a new Z-06 at $100,000 the price of gas is not a huge concern!
This is just another Corvette put down by the liberal media who hate anyone who has been sucessful enough to have a nice car!
RANT OVER! What do you guys and gals think?
I believe they referenced a ZR1 not a Z06. As for facts, they cite EPA mileage results. While I agree the MPG vs. the vehicle dynamics are excellent, the article was factually correct. Do I want to drive an econobox puddle jumper just to get 40MPG? No! But I also drive a C5 that gets darn good mileage but, doesn't offer 638 H.P. I'm not offended by the article. In fact, I'm encouraged. 638 H.P. and still in the 20 mpg range. I remember my best friends street HEMI 67 Plymouth mileage, best ever was about twelve and we never got past opening the front two barrels just a crack on one carb. Playing on Woodward it almost always delivered performance but also only about 5 MPG. YMMV.

I think you have your partys mixed up. That would be conservatives.
Your kidding, Right? It's the "liberals' who try to legislate old cars, performance cars and such off the road! Look at the price of gasoline and look whos in the whitehouse, Does Obama seem like a conservative to you? Put down the bong Man!

Actually scott1094, I do drive an "econobox puddle jumper" that gets over 40 m.p.g. as my daily driver and to go fishing in! It's a Toyota Yaris,[my wife and I both have one]. With the money we save on gas we have money for other stuff such as "mods" for the vette! I just filled it up this morning [$37.00] and can drive about 3 weeks on it around the beach area here.

I was referring to myself, not others. I don't want to drive a small car just to get high mileage results. That's why my DD is a Ford Fusion 4 cylinder that I get 33 and sometime 35 MPG out of. I happen to be a "bit" (ok, a lot) on the large side and I just don't fit in most small cars. In fact, because my head always got smashed into the roof of most cars, it's why the C5 is the first sports car that I fit in. Lastly, the Fusion is 8 months old and I just flew past the 1700 mile mark. Being also old and retired good mileage is all I needed. There was no offense intended toward those that have and enjoy smaller high MPG achieving vehicles.

Why are you so anti-capitalism? Why don't you support the free market system.
You socialists are all alike, you want the President to set the price of gas instead of letting the free market do it.
Any right-thinking American knows its better to have the free market determine pricing not some elected official.
People who think like you are ruining this country trying to make it like France.
6th gear in a Vette will give you a better fuel consumption than most family cars. I used to get high 20s driving around.
At least they didn't mention the Hummer H2 in that list (no longer in production), the stereo-typical gas guzzler I get about 10mpg in that...

Even the ZR1 gets decent gas mileage for a car with its performance capabilities. Yes its not a car that's going to get 30+ mpg, but sometimes the fun factor has to be considered and if you can afford the price of the car, you can most likely afford gas at $5/gallon.

He used to drive a Hemi 300C, so he can't be all bad!

Well, lets see jimb100, where do i start?
#1. This socialist signed on the dotted line on January 10, 1967 to go and fight socialist/ communists in good old east Asia. i have been a capialist tax paying member of the free market system ever sinse.
2. This "right" thinking american also know that the president does help determine the price of oil by keeping us constantly involved in these stupid foreign interventions in the middle east.
3. People like me are the ones that were willing to put their life on the line when their country called. Good job waving the flag there Jim!
4. lastly, No, I don't want this country to be anything like France.
I want this country to be free and for every one to have the freedom of speech and idea's. [yes, even misguided souls like you].

The words Yahoo, and news should never be put in the same sentence. Their editorials and writers are horrendous! You can easily find spelling mistakes, punctuation errors, and stories that lack substance...this being one of them.
My 705 rwhp Vette (6 spd) gets 26.5 on the highway and about 12 city (depends how spunky i feel that day). When I had a 01 Honda Odyssey it got about 24-25 highway, cant remember what city was, and now we have a 2010 Mazda Speed3 that gets 25 highway and 17 city. When my Vette was stock I got 33 highway and roughly 18 city. Personally I dont think thats bad gas milage.

My old "97" stock with the 2.73s got 32-34 mpg on the highway! [ until the gears& mods] of course!
