Default drag race preparation help

hey guys need some info on where my tire pressure should be for the track. Stock super car tires on back with not much tread left so this will likely be some pretty easy launches. Any advice other than traction control off?

My advise is Forget IT!

Why waste your time on old , dangerous, threadless tires, at no less the drag strip?

Get yourself some new street tires for the street first.

Then buy a set of wheels & tires, just for the strip.
Running old, thread less tires on a Z 06 at the strip is just asking for trouble, big time.

It's hard enough trying to launch these cars with the M/12 tranny & all the torque on drag radials or slicks.
If your going to beat on your car, at least give it a chance to give you a decent time slip in return.
Good luck.

Prob should have mentioned the car has built rear end and trans so I'm not so worried about the car not being able to handle it. Won't launch the car hard because the tires will just spin just want to take it down easy and see what kind of numbers the car can pull in street form. Drag radials are on the way soon though so I hear ya on that!

My bet is in the high 12's, low 13's.

Good wheels/tires out back, high 11's, low 12's.

What is your guess/expectations in the et you will turn?

When running drag radials, I usually start off at 17/18 #'s

Just looked at your profile.
3:90 rear w/over 500 HP.
You are definitely asking for trouble.
Be sure follow up & post your times.
Be Safe & Good luck.

I'm guessing low 12's taking it easy off the line and prob shifting a bit before redline. Car isn't stock and can prob do an easy low 11 with drag radials if not 10's with a good 60ft. I've seen cars with less power on street tires run around there going fairly easy. I figure I'll minimize the wheel spin with the throttle and take it easy. But who knows could be mid to high 12's

1- GET NEW TIRES. There aren't many Speedway White Z's left out there. It would be a shame to lose one just because of a cheap steering wheel to seat connector.

2- Read Ranger's posts about running a Z on the strip.

3- Traction control should be in COMPETITION MODE. Read Ranger's post about how this saved his a$$. And he was very experienced, on fresh tires with a much less powerful car.

A complete waste of time taking that car to the track on stock wore out tires....not even worth abusing the car for that....

Gotta admit you guys have talked me out of it. I planned on taking it very easy but there isn't much point in goin there to do that. I'll pass for now and when drag radials are mounted I'll give it a go. Thanks for the opinions

Good move.
I agree with the fellas above. When my car was setup similar to your, I wouldn't think about setting foot on a drag strip with street tires.

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT use those P.O.S. tires at the strip!! I am speaking from experience, because I ran them 3 times at the track with a STOCK Z and nearly went into the wall after hammering it into second. Those GY Super Eagles are terrible. Very hard, and very slick.

I granny launched and they still would not hook up at all. I could not get my 60ft times under 2.4 seconds and the tires would spin all the way there.

I put on some Toyo R888s and what a difference! On the 1/8th mile course I shaved 0.7 secs off my ET just with a tire change!! The difference was the first 60 ft, (0.3-0.4 secs faster).

I have time slips to prove it.

Get a set of GTO Spares rims and tires for the front ($200), this will help keep you stable past the 1/8 mark when reaching higher speeds as well as shave off some time. Then get a set of Mickey Thompson or Nitto NT05R drag radials ($500) for the rear and you're set.

I am guessing you are just using the foot break?

What are your mods?
