Im pretty good when it comes to this stuff. the C5 console had little padding and im planning to add some. I will likely make a tip to the fabric store and check out some material options also. Anyone do this?
I bought mine from Macyek at Redline for almost what it would cost me to do it myself. I ordered the padded one 2 tone color and when it arrived, I took it to the upholstery shop and had it stapled on rather than just stretched on. They did not charge me anything for the staple work. They did it while I waited.

Mine is from Redline too. I used contact cement to make a wrinkle free fit.
I think the OP was wanting to add padding, not just re-cover his console piece. This is where it would get a bit hairy to add padding, make it look even, and use the right kind of foam that does not indent.
That is why I let the pros make mine and I just attached it.
$$$frumnuttin, that looks good. did u ever find where you ordered that material. Additionally, where is that emblem from it loogs great also!!
For those who ordered from Redline they are nice also, can you share his link, and how much do those cost? i can add padding and new leather for around 30 bucks. Not saying mine will be better than a pro made one but it will be flawless

I actually tore out the old foam and used foam from a yoga mat as new padding. Too bad I didn't include pics of that in my original thread. I have the pics somewhere on my comp. Maybe I'll post them if I find them.

I got the material on ebay from an NSX vendor on the NSX site...can't think of the name, but it is a hit and miss thing anyway...I got a yard of the material...it was a bolt end, which is the last piece from a full roll...paid around $50...normally sells for more than double that, if you can find it. I still have a lot of it leftover after doing my lower door panels and the center console....the trick is to lay out your patterns carefully to minimize waste. All the automakers are now offering alcantara in one form or another for various interior upgrades...doing it on the C5 just helps bring it up to date with today's styling. This is great if you plan to keep your car.
The emblem is a cyberdine with adhesive backing....it went on perfectly...got it on the forum...can't remember which member. Hope this helps, and let's see some pics if you go the same route.
Here it is in the car with the door panels as well....

A few thoughts: The idea about the yoga mat is excellent. It has just the right resilience for another project I'm gathering materials for, padded door armrests that I can have covered by Redline in the same perf leather my other accessories have. Tho' there are some nice ready made ones from the vendors, I want to bring the whole interior together. Anyone have a steering wheel cover by WHEELSKINS? What do you think of it?
Lastly, what's all this fuss about alcantara? Its a FABRIC, not leather. My mother-in-law was a dressmaker and she bought some when they were in Singapore about 30 years ago. It was called 'ultrasuede' and was expensive then as well. She made herself a gorgeous suit from it. However, it's still a fabric, subject to the normal problems a man made material would face. I admit it looks nice and is probably very comfortable. I guess I'm just confused
The wifey likes to make quilts and spends big $$$ on her sewing stuff. (High $ embroidery sewing machines, etc). She conned me into going with her a few weeks ago to a fabric store that was moving to a new location. While pilfering around, I found some nice faux-leather (black) that pretty much matches the Vette interior and they were practically giving it away. It was normally like $15/yard but I bought nearly 2 yards (end of roll) for $3.47. (I love getting stuff cheap). Going to experiment with console and bezel some with it. Also, since I had the thinking cap on, the wifey's embroidery machine should be able to do that great C5 logo. Does anyone have any ideas where we could get a copy of it to load into her machine? I know its registered and all, but what does one have to go through to get a legit copy of it?

Thats what im talking about. Ive gotten all sorts of auto farbics from joann fabrics. I know they sell all sorts of leather and vinly. And padding can pretty much be anything. Our armrests are so simple to recover. Post pics when you finish

hmmm...tell me how much you will need...L x W...figure an overlap on the back side to be about one inch. I used a hot glue gun for best results, as it can be pressed down with your other hand while you apply the glue....bonds firm in 2 seconds. I still need some for additional projects, but we should be able to work this out for you.
I have the proper automotive foam padding too, for anyone that needs that. I have 2 thicknesses....
