Default RE:how to jack up a C-5

Im new to the C-5 forum and I was wondering how to jack up my C-5 to Change my oil, I was able to use my Rhino Ramps the lift the car in the front ....Then i found out that the oil drain plug was in the front of the oil pan so that did me no good but has any one ever thought about backing the car up the ramps so the backend is up in the air . I know its a stupid question but i got a price quote to change the oil for $69.95 which I know I can do it cheaper than that Thanks

I just posted this yesterday.

I usually use Race Ramps for oil changes. Race Ramps never slide, are very light weight and have the best clearance. http://www.raceramps.com/car-service-ramps.aspx

Sometimes instead of using my Race Ramps, I will drive up onto Trax Jax, which are 3 1/2 inch height ramps, so that I can get my low profile jack under the front and lift by the cross member (Preferred jacking location 1) .

Here are some helpful tips:

Changing the oil:

http://www.c5forum.com/diy/oilchange.php

http://www.corvettedreams.com/oil.htm

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...-pictures.html

http://www.z06vette.com/diy_lift.php

Lifting & jacking locations:

A hydraulic jack should not be placed directly under the CENTER of the front cross-member to lift the vehicle

Lifting pucks for when lifting by the frame locations:

Although jacking up the car the correct way is important.............it is my understanding that the car should be level in order to get out ALL oil from the pan. The C5 pan has what are referred to as "bat wings" on the sides and to get the oil drained from them the car must be level. Then all the oil will be emptied and all will be well.

Yes, once the front is up you must bring the rear up by jacking from under the rear cradle. I use a piece of pressure treated wood between the cradle and jack or it can roll back when the rear wheels come off the ground. Make sure to chock the front wheels if you are using ramps. I bring the rear up slightly higher than the front to make sure that all of the oil drains outt.

With the front wheels up on Rhino ramps , Would a 2 1/4 ton service jack and( 2 )3 ton floor jacks be heavy duty enough to lift the rear high enough to level the car and set the jack stands under it ?

Im a newbee when it comes to C-5 s and really scared about hurting something underneath the car, but I have some questions about jacking up the car? Do you use the 4 jacking plug locations to lift each individual wheel off the ground without harming the underbody(such as changing a tire)?............ Ive owned a C-4 for 4 years but this totally new to me

I bought two sets of Rhino Ramps. I drive up on the front ones. Then use a floor jack to jack up the rear, and place rear ramps under the car (sitting backwards for safety). A poor man's lift !

This gets car level for checking fluids.

I lift rear up slightly to drain all the oil (you get an extra 4 ounces out).

You can. But make sure you insert a jacking puck so not to damage the rocker panels....

I usually do like the others above, especially since I lowered on stock bolts - drive the front up on ramps and then jack the back.....

I made some wooden ramps on the cheap.

Yes of course. You will need to use a low profile jack and be sure to use a jacking puck.
