What are the recomendations on run flats or not? The only criteria is ride, handeling and comfort? What do you think? And if non run flats, the preferred tire of choice? Thanks Mike

If you want the security of not having to stop and change a flat while out on the road, go with a runflat. Michelin makes a good one. Otherwise, you will get better handling and ride with non-runflats. There are a lot of different and very good non-runflats out there. I personally run the Hankook Ventus V12s on my car and like them - good price for a good tire.

Mike, preferred tire choice-VERY popular topic!! As for runflats, from what I've observed, many people don't like them and switch. Z06's do not come with them.
getting out of 11 year old run flats was the best thing i could have done for my car. the ride is smooth and quiet. 17/18 nitto 555's were $750 to the door w/3 year hazard warranty. i carry a can of slime (claims to be tpms safe), a compressor, and usaa roadside.
another vote for ditchin the runflats. Granted...yea...its a good idea to carry a small air compressor with you just in case..but then again most people with vettes have AAA anyways. I searched for MONTHS tryin to find a good tire...decent price and good quality. Michelin Pilots are prolly the best your gonna get as far as all the catagories go...but you pay through the nose. I was gonna go with Hankook ventus V12s...however...i went with Z06 size rims on my C5..and hankook dont make a big enough tire for the rears...the biggest that they make doesnt make it to the outside edge of the rim and looks really goofy. I ended up goin with Bridgestone Potenza sports. OMG what a difference in the ride and comfort. Super quiet...and i was shocked at how good they hook. Comin off the line you can really stand on it and they dont wanna break loose. Price was very reasonable...under $1000..and thats mounted and balanced. Hope this helps man. Good luck.
If it's a daily driver and you really have to be someplace on time and looking good then get run-flats. Michelin makes the best of the bunch. I love mine.
For a weekend or retirement toy go for the non run-flats. I will next time around.
I just put V12's on my '01. The difference in ride, handling, and noise is positively stunning. The only thing I'm carrying with me for a flat tire incident is a AAA card and my insurance company's towing coverage. I'm not a fan of Slime, but I might try to find a portable compressor if it is light enough and I can put it in one of the 3 storage hatches in the trunk.
A lot depends on driving habits but for me runflats for security. I drive 25mi each way to work during the week and 50 mi each way on weekends to Maine. I went back and forth between the Michelin Pilot A/S+ZP and Michelin PS2 ZP. After reading through the Forums and talking with many knowledgable tire/car people I decided on the Michelin PS2 ZP. I believe this tire is close to OEM with better ride, less noise, better performance and less $.
