Default Please help

I went to pick my car up from the detail shop and the oil pressure gage is pegging all the over to 80. I checked the reading on the heads up display and its reading 123. I'm afraid if I drive the car I may damage the engine. What do I need to check or replace? Thanks in advance!!

It is a known issue with the C5 that the sender goes out quite often, It is a pain to change, So a search for oil pressure sender relocate, I did the relocate and can now change it in 5 minuets. I drove mine for 2 months before I did the relocate.
Mr.Bill

If you pm me your e-mail I will send you a how to relocate file.

to verify that its the sensor, turn off your car, then turn the key to where your dash lights up without starting the engine.. if you are showing oil pressure with the engine off.. its definitively the sensor.

mine went bad just before i put her up for winter storage... it still needs to be replaced. soon.

Most likely it is the sensor gone bad, but do the simple test first.

Relocate it next to your oil filter with the TPE Oil Pressure Relocation Kit. That way when it goes out again, you can do it yourself in 5 minutes.

Alternately, you can get to the sensor without relocating it. It's tricky to do the first time, but I could do it again in about 25 minutes now. If there's a trick to relocating with DIY materials on the cheap, that's a great option, but if you pay $200 for the relocation kit, you're out of your damn mind.

You can build one yourself with a ebay kit and some parts from summit, but this gives the op the general idea. I bought it only because I needed in done in two days for a race and did not know about the cheeper alternative and ill fork over more $$ to support a CF vendor.

I went out and turn the key without starting the car. And yes, the needle still pegs straight over to 80. Again thanks for you help!! Do you have to remove the intake order to change the sensor? Is this something I can tackle without a mechanic?

You can do it yourself fairly easy. I suggest getting a new "brass" sender and not a sender from GM as they will most likely fail again within minutes to days.

a friend did mine today...

we ended up pulling the intake. that thing is in a really tough spot... i have a 2001 and i dont know if theres a difference in location for earlier c5's but theres no way we could have gotten that done without removing the intake.

here are a couple shots from a different angle, sans intake.

if we have to replace this sucker again, a relocation kit will be installed.

Likewise. Thanks Mr. Bill for the PDF and Darkstar for his pictures of what we're dealing with.
